thunderbolt stopped working with some devices

OS X 10.10.2 (14C1514)

MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013)

Serial # C02KW4CNF6T6

Purchase Date End June 2013

At my home-office I use a Belkin Thunderbolt Hub and a DELL external screen. If I connect to the Hub, i can hear my USB Back-Up drive (connected to the Belkin Hub) starting up (but doesn't get recognized by my computer) and the screen get's a signal but turns into power-safe mode. Also, connecting directly the screen, nothing happens. The system report shows

Status: No device connected

At the office, I also use a DELL Screen (different model) and there the Thunderbolt Port works just fine.

Using also another MacBook Air Mid 2013 connecting at the home-office setting (to the Hub or directly to the screen) works just fine.

a hardware test at the local apple specialist showed that all components respond and there is no error. but also there, the thunderbolt-to-ethernet adapter didn't work.

since I don't have apple care, they told me that they could only exchange the main-board of the macbook air for around 700 USD.

is there no other way to find the problem or get a fix?

Exact same problem here. Dell 4K display stopped working with my mid-2013 Macbook Air *while* I was using it, and won't recognize it anymore. Yet when I hook up my girlfriend's mid-2011 Macbook Air to the monitor it works just fine. My computer also still works on an Acer display in my office using the DisplayPort on that monitor just fine. ***?? I'm using the DisplayPort on the monitor with a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. Even tried a different cable, and no luck.

Any luck finding a resolution?

Cheers,

Dave
