    Hello,

Having encouraged you to start your own thread I have to respond, though I don't have Yosemite and that means someone who does will have to expand.   As you can see, there are so many processes killed by memory shortage.

In principle you need at least another 4Gb of RAM but that is because of Yosemite, not absolutely the slowness.   The Pageins and Page-outs figures are awful and I am wondering if Escrow Security Alert is connected here.

I'm sure someone will come along and comment further soon.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

              SYSTEM LOG QUERIES All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

              View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.

Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.

Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback. This is a line that I am seeing reoccurring a lot in the Console Logs:

2015-04-08 2:51:22.761 PM Microsoft Excel[10657]: CGBitmapContextGetData: invalid context 0x1f6222b0. This is a serious error. This application, or a library it uses, is using an invalid context  and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system stability and reliability. This notice is a courtesy: please fix this problem. It will become a fatal error in an upcoming update.

There are hundreds upon hundreds of these. Other than that, nothing seems repetitive or showing significant error messaging.

You're running a version of Office 2008 with a known bug. There should be a patch available from Microsoft to fix the bug.

I am new to troubleshooting Macs and am not sure how to fix problem. My Macbook Pro is starting up and running slow. I am having a lot of beach balling. I ran Etre Check and have included the output. Please excuse any obvious oversights and/or ignorant statements on my part. I am here to learn how to handle issues. Thanks to all in advance for sharing your knowledge and time. I do not have a Time Machine backup, but have corrected that problem.

The first thing you need to do is to get rid of anything that carries the Norton or Symantec names.   Use Easy Find from the App Store.   These programs are no more in the interests of your security than Kremlin.   Then repeat the Etrecheck report.
