Q: Connecting an early 2008 to mid-2010 iMac for dual display

Hi there,

I have been searching a lot about it but i didnt find a proper answer about my problem. I want to connect my old 20" iMac early 2008 (Mac OSX 10.7.5) to my newer 21.5" mid-2010 (Mac OSX 10.9.5) so i can share the screen and make one big display OR just use it as another connected desktop.

First, is it possible ? and Second, how can i do it ?

No, according to Apple, it is not possible.

The feature you're interested in is TDM, Target Display Mode. It wasn't introduced until 2009 with the Late 2009 27" iMacs. Your 2010 21.5" iMac also can't be a TDM display. You can read about TDM here: Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Apple Support. If you do wind up trying TDM in the future, be aware that you have to have the exact, male-male, cable specified on the apple FAQ linked above.
