Q: Problems arising with PPT QuickTime movies playing on the internet

Up until two weeks ago, iWeb published 2 different PPT movies [QuickTime] mounted on my website.

My FTP uploaded them successfully [double-checked the contents of each directory to ensure all elements in place including the Media files]. Safari played them once the website was uploaded.

The two pages that I have a PPT movie mounted for past 2 years have had no problems either in iWeb publishing them and Safari playing them.

For some reason, upon conducting an upload to update two other pages on my site this time round, iWeb published them, the FTP uploaded them successfully, but they would not load on the website [I use Safari].

Not sure where the problem lies.

Here are my questions:

  1. Is there a problem within my iWeb program despite all was well with these two pages two weeks ago?
  2. Is it Safari and my internet?
  3. Is this a QuickTime issue? I believe I have the latest update.
  4. What else could be disfunctioning?

I wish to add, I had a similar problem with these two movies some time ago. The forum advisors suggested to completely remount the pages and the movies. Would this be the solution I need to repeat, or is there something else I should be considering?

Thank you!

What is the URL of the problem webpages so we can examine them first hand?

If you publish the site to a folder on the hard drive do the movies play OK if viewed locally with your browser?  If they do the try using the File ➙ Publish Entire Site menu option for force a republicaton of all files.

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

Here is the information you are seeking:

    URLs as follows:

#1: The Four Candles Proverb: http://lanark-baldersonpastoralcharge.ca/The_Four_Candles_Proverb.html

    #2: The Motivation/Inspiration-1st Year Students: http://lanark-baldersonpastoralcharge.ca/Motivation_Inspiration-1st_Year_Student s.html

To Note: What occurs in Safari when opening the page is the 'QuickTime' icon appears then disappears. This has never occurred before. The Player for each page's movie is there but cannot be engaged.

Below is a screen shot of the 'Motivation/Inspiration …' page as as it appears in iWeb's publishing screen. The same occurs for The Four Candles page. Evidently, this is an indication the iWeb is not publishing the movie. Again, all was fine two weeks ago. Your assistance is most appreciated. And, if needs be, I will have to republish the entire site as you have mentioned. Many thanks! Most appreciated to receive your assistance.

I forgot to include a screen shot of the movies as they would appear on the web page:

You apparently have the snippet window too small (height wise) for the movies.  Control (right) - clicking on them to play in a separate window allows them to be played.

So I suggest you expand the widget window and try publishing again. Do not hit the apply button after changing the widget's window size.

I enlarged the PPT window but there was no 'Apply' button. Published it, but the QuickTime? logo still appears on the iWeb publication site.

I am lacking understanding about using 'Control' to play in a separate window. I am also having a problem comprehending what is a 'snippet' and 'widget' window.

Please bear with me not understanding your instructions. The information is very new to me and must admit to my low-level skills.

Would you be able to assist me further? I do want to resolve this problem. If you can send to me 'screen shots' of what you are referencing, this would be most helpful, it not too imposing of your time.

    Thanks!

Clear your browsers cache (Command+Option+E for Safari) and reload the pages again.

    Thank you!

It is a routine procedure for me when publishing in iWeb my site to not only clear Safari's History but also the caches. And, repeat doing so before performing an upload.

However, I will remount each page onto another template as I have done previously when this episode occurs, enlarge the PPT and re-publish. Hopefully, this will reengage the pages that were okay two weeks ago.

I'm also checking with my ISP regarding the need for morecweb space and speedier internet connectivity.

Again, thank you for assisting me.
