Apr 8, 2015 4:24 PM in response to chris romanoby deggie,What is an identifier number? Are you talking about the Model no? ICCID? These are all available if you go to Settings > General > About.

Apr 8, 2015 4:36 PM in response to deggieby chris romano,Argh. The Advertising Identifier.
Allegedly, if a game crashes, a log file might be sent to the developer, and in that log file is the advertising identifier... this would allow the developer to check the log, locate the correct crash file via ad id, and figure out what is going wrong. At least, that's how I understand it.

Apr 8, 2015 4:38 PM in response to chris romanoby deggie,That is true but you cannot see the number from your end. You can reset it in Settings > Privacy > Advertising buy you cannot display it.

Apr 8, 2015 4:43 PM in response to deggieby chris romano,Oh, another mistake on my part!
I need to ENABLE the identifier on the iPad2 iOS 5.1.1... this should get The Identifier app working, and then I can read the number and tell them.
However, on iOS 5.1.1, there is no Settings > Privacy > Advertising that I have been able to find.
I apologize for all the fumbles on my end... I put this problem down a week ago and I am just picking it back up, so I kind of forgot some important details. Doh!

Apr 8, 2015 4:45 PM in response to chris romanoby deggie,Previously this setting was in Settings > General > About but the reset ability was not added until iOS 6.0.1 I believe.

Apr 8, 2015 4:50 PM in response to deggieby chris romano,If you visit the support page here:
Opt out of interest-based ads from iAd - Apple Support
It instructs how to disable it on previous devices... visit oo.apple.com, but the link seems to be dead now. It just redirects back to itself. :/

Apr 8, 2015 4:55 PM in response to chris romanoby deggie,Are you attempting to access oo.apple.com on your iPad?
That will turn off interest based ads I don't believe it will do any resetting or enabling of the number which I believe was on by default. It is possible that there is a problem with your iOS installation but if you attempt to resolve it you will end up with iOS 8.3 which I assume you don't want to do.

Apr 8, 2015 5:00 PM in response to deggieby chris romano,I have visited the link on the iPad. I got the same redirect result. You're probably right that it just turns it off.
Yes, I have been avoiding the update. It may end up being my last resort, though.
