GMAIL Accounts unusable after 8.3 update!

I have lost access to my GMAIL accounts after upgrading to IOS 8.3 !

IOS Settings does not provide me a way to enter a new application password for the account - there is NO PASSWORD box displayed anywhere in the GMAIL configuration. So I tried deleting the account and re-adding it but i get stuck in an endless loop of two-step confirmation and it "appears" to add the account (prompts me for which features - mail, notes, calendar, etc.) but then when all is said and done NO GMAIL ACCOUNT shows up in my list of accounts. WTH?

And trying to navigate Apple's support screens has become an exercise in frustration and futility!

Anyone got any ideas how to fix this mess?

I also had experienced this issue. You need to power off the iPad or iPhone.

To Power off this is to hold the On/Off button and slide the power off. Wait for a couple of seconds when it's done loading.

Another way is to remove your Email account from settings and add it back on settings.

Thanks for the suggestion / help - unfortunately it didn't work. Tried it several times and several different ways (normal power off, forced reboot, etc.) - all to no avail. VERY frustrating. I can remember when we used to say the advantage of Apple products was "they just worked" - not anymore. now they're becoming as bad as MS...

To be specific - I select Add account, Google, I get prompted to log into GMAIL and receive a two-step verification code, I enter the code, I see the selection for account features (mail, calendar, etc) BRIEFLY and then am automatically returned to the "Add Account" screen with no change in my accounts listing. I've made sure to go thru the process without the mail app open, and done the power-off/reboot after adding an account - nothing seems to work. This is just CRAP and I can't believe Apple would release an update with this kind of glaring bug...

There is no password input box under GMAIL in the mail settings. I deleted the account and tried adding it back in, and it doesn't take. I select "Add new Account" -> "Google" -> enter in my gmail credentials -> get prompted for two-step verification -> get the "accept permissions" screen from Google -> see the Feature selection list from Apple (Mail, Calendar, Notes, etc.) and then without pause it returns me to the Add accounts screen - there is no option to add/update/modify settings, and the GMAIL account doesn't get added. Have tried rebooting (both forced and normal power-off) and nothing seems to get the GMAIL account back.
VERY VERY Frustrating!!

Yeah, sorry, I realized after I posted that the account wouldn't be there. Have you tried logging into your Gmail account settings through a web browser to see if there is something you can do or something that needs to be set from that end, For now, you could also use the official Gmail App until you can get the problem sorted with the iPad's Mail App.

I haven't updated yet but will be in the next day or so. I also use my Gmail as my default account, so I will let you know if I run into the same problem.

I am experiencing the exact same problem as well. This is ridiculous. I go to add my GMail account and I sign in on the GMail login screen, allow iOS access, then I am directed to the same screen you usually see when you add an account (the one that shows whether or not you are syncing contacts, calendars, etc.) for just about a millisecond before I am redirected right back to the "Add Account" screen. Weird. I will continue trying different workarounds and if I figure anything out, I will post here ASAP.

So, I just did a security check in GMail on my PC and checked on my "Account Permissions" section and saw that the access I had just given to my account (via my iPhone) had been recorded. That means, entering my login information and password when attempting to add my account, was successful in authorizing my iPhone to access my GMail account. It seems to me that because of this, Apple is responsible for the glitch, not Google. It looks like there is a disconnect (at least for me) between the login process, the authorization process, and the actual adding of the account (which process looks to be the same as in previous iOS 8 iterations). I am not sure if that helps, but I thought I would note that for everyone in this thread.

To Update this thread, and for the benefit of others with similar issues - I powered my iPad off for about 5 minutes, powered it back on, waited (with it on) for about an hour, then tried to add the Gmail account again (I'm a glutton for punishment, i guess) and this time IT WORKED! Not sure if the waiting is what helped or what, but i went thru the exact same process only this time when it showed the feature selections (email, contacts, calendar, notes) after accepting the Gmail permissions screen it didn't automatically flash all the way back to the "add Account" screen but stayed on the feature selection screen and displayed a "save" link in the upper right corner. Once I pressed the "save" link the account was created and all was right with the world (well, the IOS email world at least). Hope this helps someone else - but it definitely seems like some kind of handshaking issue between Apple's email configuration software and Gmail's authorization process.

I updated my iPad Air and iPhone 6 to 8.3. On the iPhone, I can't check gmail. Tries over and over, but the "last checked" timestamp never updates, and I get no new mail.

On the iPad Air, I removed the account, and when trying to add, I'm having the same issue a few others have had. I add the Gmail account, it looks like it takes, but when it goes to the screen with the sliders for Contacts, etc., they are all on but the page is grayed out, then it disappears, lands me back to the accounts list. I never got the chance to "save". The account is not listed.

Update - I powered off the iPad waited a few minutes, powered on, and added the account. This time it took, and I can check mail.

After the iPad sorted itself out, I picked up my iPhone, and without changing anything, it then connected and updated the "last checked" timestamp, and got new mail.

What in the world??

Just wanted to add to this thread. I found out that this might be related to using the iCloud Keychain on iOS and with a computer using Mac OS X. Due to how iCloud Keychain stores all passwords across all synced devices, which can be both iOS devices and Mac OS X computers, the methods for accessing and updating those passwords has changed. Not sure whether this is intentional by Apple or not, but it seems that the ability to update passwords stored in iCloud Keychain is not something you can do through iOS (or at least, I have not been able to find a way to access the keychain and view/update any of the passwords stored there).

If you have a computer set up to use iCloud Keychain, you can use the Keychain.app to view/modify any passwords that are stored there, which "should" update the passwords stored on the iOS device, if that keychain item is actually synced to the iCloud Keychain. (Tested this and confirmed)

The problem appears to arise specifically if you only have one iOS device (or only have iOS devices) using iCloud Keychain. The option to update passwords seems to be missing. Not sure it this is new to 8.3, but this is the first time I have run into this problem, and cannot seem to find any reports detailing this problem anywhere else. In fact, to a greater degree, most articles/sites that discuss the iCloud Keychain only refer to the usernames and passwords stored by Safari, which are not the only passwords and information stored by the iCloud Keychain. This issue being a prime example.

I did notice that when re-adding my gmail account using my iPhone, the login page was actually just a webkit presentation of the gmail login page (webkit being the underpinnings of Safari, used for displaying HTML, but not actually the full app or Safari), which is where I entered my username and password, which I am assuming is now stored in my iCloud Keychain. I even checked in Settings>Safari>Passwords&Autofill>Saved Passwords, and my gmail username and password are NOT listed there, so iCloud Keychain is storing some items somewhere else, which is not accessible by the end user through the UI.

GMAIL Accounts unusable after 8.3 update!
