How to reveal in Finder?

Is there a way to "Reveal in Finder" in Photos, similar to the option in iPhoto?

I am looking for this as well .. I found a VERY UGLY hack which is not ideal but it somewhat works .. I would prefer not to do it since you have to use freeware "EasyFinder" and its complicated as heck to setup (requires you setting up softlinks in terminal etc) .. I am hoping the "Reveal in Finder" missing is just a bug.. and its fixed.

The question is... Why do you want to get to the file on the disk? If you can explain what you're aiming to do, perhaps we can suggest another way to achieve the same thing.

As for exporting... Once you've used the photo for whatever purpose, delete it.

Ok case in point.. say I am trying to post a photo in my library to something like Facebook using CHROME .. the only option that works is if you use a file (you can not drag n drop from Photos into CHROME -- that just doesn't work -- chrome is expecting a file in a location) .. so .. with the old iPhotos .. I would just find the photo in question, do the "reveal in finder" then simply drag the photo into the chrome file selection box that you get when you attempt to post a picture (say in a comment response and not to your timeline) ..

That wasn't necessary with iPhoto either.

When you go to attach a shot in a web browser and almost every single other app, your Library is available in the attach dialogue. This shot is from Chrome, a couple f moments ago:

Note the media heading down left, Click on Photos and there's all your Library.

Yes that does technically work but given the size of my photo library (even the new Photos) app is agonizingly slow to populate that view (and then there is all that scrolling just to get to where you want to be).. I could have something posted and completed the "Reveal In Finder" way before that dialog was even refreshed.. and I often found new items would not show in that view for some mysterious reason .. it always seems to lag behind.

Lets hope that Apple adds the option back .. its gotta be an oversight on their part.. I know there is going to be a lot of complaints about this.

Note the search box, top right...and the many customisation options in the dialogue all of which make it faster and safer.

Yup see it.. I'll stick with my "easy find" way for now as its better suited for how I work .. and its more like the original method.. plus that MEDIA category is just far too slow to be usable with a large content library.. but thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully between mine and yours it will help others out to accomplish what they are trying to do..

Hi Terrence,

I need this, too. And I think I have a good reason...

I had a messed-up Aperture Library and I didn't want to risk transferring that whole mess to the new Photos app. Consequently, over the last few weeks I have manually uploaded all my photos to iCloud using the iCloud.com web interface.

When I opened the new photos app, all my pictures downloaded, just as I expected.

However, when I use the Get Info menu option, my photos have no descriptions. If I export the picture as an Unmodified Original and use Finder's Get Info button, I can see my old descriptions from Aperture.

I was hoping to highlight a picture in Photos > Reveal In Finder > Get Info > Copy the description > Paste in Photos.

This would be very time consuming, of course, but better than exporting each individual photo. The info is there, just not viewable in the new app.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Steve.

Indeed, the current reason I want to work directly with the file on disk is to attempt to get around the gross limitation in Photos of the inability to easily correct GPS location of a photo. For example, I have a photograph from a professional photographer that humorously depicts a family gathering in Inner Mongolia, because the photog likely forgot to prefix his longitude with a "-".

I would like to experiment with modifying the EXIF data directly, without jumping through a tedious export/import process that is both wasteful of wall clock time, as well as likely to result in photo quality degeneration and time stamp/metadata/event association loss unless done very delicately. If modifying the EXIF data directly allows the updated location to be correctly used in Photos, then it's a good workaround for the current omission of GPS data modification within the app.

In any case, there are a number of reasons why a UNIX-minded user (who typically favors Apple for this reason) might want to study information about the file on disk. I concede that affording an option to make this possible is akin to giving us enough rope to shoot ourselves in the foot, but I was hoping Apple hadn't moved away from such liberties yet.
