Q: os x 10.10.3 installed and wifi slowed down

I installed OS Xver 10.10.3 last night and now my wifi connection has slowed down. Connections very slow or drop out. My wifi is working. Did the update cause these problems?

iMac (20-inch Early 2009), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), wifi problems

This is the only good temporary fix that I've been alerted to as yet is this one:

    http://www.engadget.com/2014/11/25/heres-the-root-cause-and-a-workaround-for-ios -8-and-yosemite-wi/

It will bring your WiFi back up to full speed, but you will need re-do the fix again if you shutdown your Mac and boot it back up.

HHave had the same problem.  Switched photo upload off for one day and it seems to have helped.

I did a clean install and this seemed to fix the issue. However, once I restored everything from Time Machine the issue came back. However, the issue seemed to be resolved after I did the OS X Combo Update.

I can only speak about what’s working for me here as I am having WiFi speed problems on 10.10.3

I was getting ~60Mbps down when I should be getting ~150Mbps wirelessly on my Macbook Air (10.10.3).

I disabled Bluetooth as a test and my speed-test skyrocketed back to that mark.

It’s a ****** solution but that worked for me. Has anyone else seen this (i.e, disable Bluetooth entirely)?

Seemed to fix it for me too... What I found odd is that Little Snitch wasn't reporting anything uploading. However, pausing Photos upload for a day seemed to increase performance.

    Hi looney,

Yes that may be the case for some people who have only just updated to 10.10.3 (which will be a diminishing number as the majority will have updated before now) but for most people the bandwidth used on photo upload is simply a temporary cause until the initial uploading of their photo library is complete.

Myself as with many others, never even turned photo upload on after updating to 10.10.3 and so that was never and could never be the cause of the issue for us. This WiFi issue for me and many others is directly due to Apple Wireless Direct Link (AWDL) which was a feature introduced with the first version of Yosemite back in October 2014, as per the following article:

    http://www.engadget.com/2014/11/25/heres-the-root-cause-and-a-workaround-for-ios -8-and-yosemite-wi/

My WiFi speed has been diminishing ever since installing the first version of Yosemite, and then the 10.10.3 update just finished it off for good, that is until I used the the temporary fix outlined in the article linked above, which instantly brought my connection right back to full speed.

Miraculously I managed to sort some of this out this past weekend.

In the end, what seemed to do it for me was a simple "PRAM zap", an old-school Mac "fix everything" trick which I haven't done on a modern MBP ever (that I can remember).

Anyway, try rebooting and holding down "command" + "option" + "P" + "R" all at the same time. It will reboot and play the start-up chime again. I usually let it do that a few times (three) and then allow it to boot up as normal.

Your display settings maybe off like mine was (...and a few others. I don't remember what PRAM holds. Maybe mouse/pointer settings?) but it seemed to clear up the wi-fi issues for me.

For posterity, I took many of the suggestions on the forums including uninstalling Adobe products, and reducing my start-up items. I did boot into safe mode and saw a marginal improvement. I also went as far as creating a new Network Location (sometimes those can get corrupted) and removing any Bluetooth connections. As I mentioned above, it seemed to be the PRAM zap which solved it.

You still consider using mac after that year? I am seriously considering never te buy mac again. The new imac retina that cost me 3600euro has been nothing but constant disappointment. It is not only all the bugs in the OS that are driving me crazy. The hardware itself doesn't work that well either. After years of being a happy mac user i think my next purchase will be PC again.

Thanks mate but I tried the PRAM and all the other basic resets weeks ago when I first noticed the  problem. PRAM did nothing for me with this issue.

I thought my wifi felt slow but never bothered to investigate till I started having issues streaming last night.

Basically the link Supreem posted worked for me: http://www.engadget.com/2014/11/25/heres-the-root-cause-and-a-workaround-for-ios -8-and-yosemite-wi/

Here's a before and after making the change, now I'm hitting the max my connection allows vs less than half. I'm running 10.10.4 beta so its not fixed yet.
