Q: os x 10.10.3 installed and wifi slowed down

I installed OS Xver 10.10.3 last night and now my wifi connection has slowed down. Connections very slow or drop out. My wifi is working. Did the update cause these problems?

iMac (20-inch Early 2009), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), wifi problems

Good luck. This is exactly what I did on my wife's computer (rMBP late 2013). It worked precisely one day good and after a night sleep it reverted to the old habit of not connecting to wireless. 10.10.3 came out and the problem spread to the other 2 computers I had never ever had a minuscule problem before.

MBP 2012. Massive WiFi issues since Yosemite. Got it working somehow in 10.10.1 and 10.10.2 but no way in 10.10.3.

Spent 2 hours with Apple support last Saturday. They tried everything you guys already described here in the thread, but no success. At the end they said it needs a fresh install of Yosemite what I haven't done yet. But instead of that I ordered a brand new MacBook Pro from Apple Store. It arrived yesterday and unlikely the same issue. No way to get the WiFi up and running.

Spent next time with Apple support. They said it must be the router as it's working with the iPhone hotspot. I have 4 D-Link DAP-2590 access points. All devices in my family are able to connect with them:

    3 iPhones

    2 iPads

    3 Apple TV

    3 MacBook Air

    4 TV's (Philips/Samsung)

    1 Solar System

    4 Axis Cams

And my a brand new MacBook Pro can't? I need to replace my 3 years old routers? That means a lot of work and a lot of money so no way.

So Apple... Is there a way to get my MBP up and running with my D-Link routers?

Update: Just spoke with D-Link support. They suggested to change the Cipher Type from Auto to AES as they know about some issues with Apple products re this.

This didn't fix my issue but may help someone else here.

The ended up with telling me that it must be an Apple issue as all my other devices are working fine and only my two MBP having WiFi issues. And tbh - I really believe in what they're saying.

    its just a shame....

bought myself a € 2,4k retina macbook pro and whoohooooo wifi/bluetooth issues since half a year now...

it's not that bluetooth/wifi is a totally new innovative technology...every €500 pc notebook would have done a better job till now

get the f**** driver fixed !!!

It's true to say that Yosemite is an epic balls up when it comes to WiFi connectivity (not tried Bluetooth much but I noticed my SMS texts function totally dropped off of my Messages.app on 10.10.2 Yosemite update, never to return).

Can I just ask the following:

    1) With the brand new MBP you ordered from Apple, when you tested it did it have exactly the same WiFi problems?

    2) If so, what WiFi problems are we talking about exactly? Super slow connection speed, drop outs etc.

    3) Which model of MBP is it exactly? Retina/non-Retina, 13"/15"

    4) Also did you test the new MBP right out of the box i.e. with zero software alterations and NOT restoring from a back-up?

My 13" late 2013 rMBP is having problems in terms of having super slow WiFi speeds, but only on my home WiFi connection. If I go to any other WiFi connection, it works fine at full speed. I'm not experiencing drop outs as such. Also to note that my dads old 2008 MBP works fine on my WiFi connection and also my brothers 15" Late 2013 rMBP works fine on my WiFi connection too, both fully updated to latest Yosemite 10.10.3 so my actual WiFi connection and all associated with it are absolutely sound and solid, this problem is specific to my 13" late 2013 rMBP. It's also worth noting that the versions of the operating system/Yosemite are different builds for each type of MBP so the operating system build on a 13" late 2013 rMBP is a different build to that of say a 15" late 2013 rMBP.

Having a mbp mid-2012, WiFi working all the way to 10.10.2 (though not always that stable), updated to 10.10.3 and boom: Super slow WiFi. Tried resetting the router, clearing network preference files, repairing permissions, turning off/on several times. Nothing helped so far.

I'm backing up right now and will try SMC and PRAM reset (don't have a positive outlook though).

    Reported to Apple Bugreporter.

I hope they get it fixed ASAP, it is really annoying. iPhone, iPad and PS4 have no problems whatsoever.

Plugging in via Ethernet works -> stable and speedy connection.

Every other WiFi and every hotspot I tried worked for me. Just my home connection keeps bugging.

    Thanks for your reply Supreem.

The new MBP I've tested was a 15-inch: 2.5GHz with Retina display, so nearly the same as my 2012 model. I did the out of the box testing without iCloud login and without Time Machine backup. It came with 10.10.2 which was working on my 5Ghz Wifi but after I upgraded it to 10.10.3 it stopped working. Issues are exactly the same as with my 2012 MBP

    These are the issues:

Sometimes it connects but can't ping something.

Sometimes everything works for a few seconds but with a very slow connection 3-7Mbps but it drops very quickly.

    Hope the above helps

    EDIT:

Sometimes download speed works for a short period, but ping latency is always extremely high (lowest 200 ms, highest about 3000 ms).

However, no dropouts as others reported; just extremely slow.

Thanks for the feedback mate, yeah so it's defo Yosemite 10.10.3, that's when things really went pear shaped for my WiFi connection, but only at my home connection, all over WiFi connection I've tried elsewhere work fine.

Same here. Only my home connection with my D-Link access points is causing issues. office wifi, Parents wifi and iPhone hotspot are working well.

Precisely the same problem as myself. The PRAM and SMC rest did nothing for me unfortunately. I too ave tried all of the above testing. I've even changed my IP address and renamed my router, deleted the router complete off my Mac then reinstated it. No change though so it defo looks like a major bug in 10.10.3.

Also as you said on any other WiFi connection, it works at full speed, just my home connection is super slow now. All other dives and laptops on my home WiFi are fine, even other MacBooks that are updated to 10.10.3!

One way I have found out how to get a temporary fix was to create a new user account. Then when you boot up you  should login into the new user account first, then log out and back into your usual user account, and for some reason this fixes the issue for me and I then have a full speed connection. Obviously once my MacBook goes to sleep for a while or I shutdown and reboot it, then I need to repeat that process in order to get back fast WiFi connection in my home.

My WiFi seed should be around 40Mbps 'Download Speed' in my home office room.

This is the speed I get if I just log in to my user account as one should normally do (and when it's doing the speed test, the Mbps is all over the place going from zero to 15Mbps max, continually going up and down like a yo-yo which is completely abnormal):

    Screen Shot 2015-04-15 at 15.33.53.jpg

To note: on the above: sometimes I will get as low as 2Mbps as the final 'average speed' test result for my download speed, this 13.55 reading is very good compared to what I've been testing yesterday.

Below is the speed I get if I do my temporary 'fix' i.e. logging into another user account I created on my rMBP, then logging out of that and back into my main user account (the speed test says consistently between 38 and 42Mbps, which is what it should do):

    Screen Shot 2015-04-15 at 15.36.13.jpg

As you can see 'Upload Speed' is not affected, but 'Download Speed' is abysmal without doing the 'fix'. Also I am noticing now that there are drop outs occurring, not int he sense of my entire connection as that always remains full bars, however the speed (without doing the fix) will often drop down to zero Mbps sporadically. Nightmare On Elm Street 10.10.3!

Tried your temporary fix, didn't work for me, though :/

It is really frustrating as ****... I hope there will be an official update or hotfix soon.

    Supreem,

Your data almost certainly indicates that some process or some app is consuming data in the background on your original account. I would start killing processes one by one and check if the speed restores.

    iw@nt,

what the ping latency to your router ? and then whats the ping latency to say apple.com ?

That can help point out where the issue lies.
