I don't even see these options in my Yosemite 10.10.3 (August 2012 Macbook Air) I don't see "COG" (what is that?) or "local link only" as an option in TCP/IP...

    Reference:

    1. Preferences > Network > Highlight Bluetooth > Setup COG > MARK SERVICE AS INACTIVE (simply turning it off did nothing)

    2. Wifi > Advanced > TCP/IP > local link only

    3. Network > Setup COG > Set Service Order > drag wifi to top

    4. Network > remove thunderbolt connection (doubt this step did anything.  I never use it so just got rid of it.)

    oops

"local link only" is under the scroll down menu for IPv6

The cog is the little setup gear looking thing under the list of types of connection

    Sorry it was early.

I had the very same WIFI issue with my MBA mid 2013 after installing yosemite 10.10.3 update.

I have talked to Apple guys on the phone twice and found out that my office modem was the problem. There was no problem with the modem I use at home.

My office modem was only supporting 802.11b/g which are old protocols but used to work before the update. However, after the yosemite update, the connection was lost almost every 5 seconds or so.

I have just bought a new modem supporting 802.11n today and it works perfectly fine.

Can you tell us which "modem" you bought? Some of us have been using 802.11n wifi access points from the beginning ("me") yet wifi drops every 2-3 days and i have to power cycle the macbook air to get it back. This workaround did not help:

DONE.1. Preferences > Network > Highlight Bluetooth > Setup COG("gear icon") > MARK SERVICE AS INACTIVE (simply turning it off did nothing)

DONE.3. Network > Wifi > Setup COG > Set Service Order > drag wifi to top:

      New:

      - Wi-Fi

      - Bluetooth DUN

      - USB ethernet

      - Bluetooth PAN

      - Thunderbolt Bridge

04.27.2015 at 5:18PM wifi dropped. (within ~1 hour of the changes above)

04.27.2015 at 5:23PM power cycled, wifi came back.

04.29.2015 at 12:55PM wifi just now dropped.

04.29.2015 at 12:58PM power cycled, wifi came back.

05.02.2015 at 10:34PM came home to find wifi had dropped. power cycled, wifi came back.

05.04.2015 at 10:05PM woke up to find that wifi had dropped. restart did not fix it. power cycle fixed it.

I'm in Turkiye, so I don't whether the modem I bought is available in your country but it is Airties 5342, a quite simple one using only 802.11n. The old one was Zeta and was only using 802.11 b/g. My wifi was continously dropping, so I did following> open wireless diagnostics > window > scan >scan now. I saw that my wifi connection was only 802.11 b/g.

I checked once again after I bought the new modem and it was 802.11 n and wifi never dropped again.

This may not be helpful for you but it definitely solved my problem.

    regards

Hello folks.  I updated to 10.10.3 on my Macbook on Thursday 21st May 2015 and had dropped connection issues straight afterwards.

My issue has now been solved.  The issue was not my Mac!

I hope this post helps - I am confident it will if you are in the UK and have either BT HomeHub4 or BY HomeHub5.  Basically, BT have upgraded some internet in some places from 2.5GHz to 5GH and you simply need to switch your router to a mode where it looks for 5GHz only and doesn't mess with 2.5Ghz.

Don't panic - it's easy - scroll down a bit in this link and the instructions (from BT) are there.  Apparently it affects all sorts - not just Macs.

    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44798/~/i-have-problems-connectin g-5ghz-and-dual-band-devices-wirelessly-…

For those who are not using BT home hubs are their routers, I wonder if your issue might still be that you need to switch your router to 5GHz?

Hope I've been helpful - I feel your pain - those still suffering - and all the best with solving your issues!

    You, sir/madam are a genius!

I've had a nightmare losing wifi since updating to 10.10.3 and tried just about every suggestion on the internet.  What was weird was I always lost a connection when working between the iMac and my second screen/monitor.  Switching between Safari on one and another bit of software on the other always terminated the connection.

Anyway, switching to 5Ghz has done the trick.  Thanks very much.

Tried everything in ALL discussions. And I still have a lousy wifi connection. Stalls, speed at less than a third of my old computer running Mavericks.

I just do NOT understand why we must deal with this.

I simply just hate APPLE now. Think it's about time I retire.

    Dear Link Davis,

Many thanks. Your very well outlined post helped me identify my wifi problem:

    in particular, your:

Step 2: Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.

Baffling and exasperating my two best IT advisors and myself: My new usb 3 external HD "NewerTech Voyager" kills my wifi connectivity on my new mac mini "late 2014" 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM, 1TB HD. We suspect some kind of high bandwidth interference. Therefore my sweet new external drive must remain disconnected for the present.

It is too bad that Apple was unable to and-or wouldn't admit they know anything about this issue when I called in the problem yesterday, although they did politely create an item # for my complaint. Initially they wanted me to go after the vendor of the external drive, which i felt was a quick try at passing the buck. I stand firm in my contention that this is indeed a problem Apple should address.

I hope for a patch in the OS, but i'm generally worried about core functionality being sacrificed at the altar of Apples new services, ever since my detailed experiences with Mac OS X 10.10.x.  Call me stung with small paper cuts, this being the most recent, but I won't list the others here.

I may try a 72" usb 3 cable to separate the drive a few feet away from the mac mini.  Then maybe a tin-foil hat!
