Thank you dingusmagoo i changed my Hub 5 so will see how that works but what if you want to go further away when only 2.5 will work or if you have some old equipment that only runs on 2.5 all i know was before the last apple upgrade things worked

    This work for me.

    -----

Worked for me yesterday, but this morning opened my macbook and no connection clicked on my connection and guess what it ask for the password then did not recognise the correct password and it was back to shutting down and trying until after a few attempts it did log on. So my Hub 5 is setup as described in dingusmagoo post yet this as not stopped the problem. Since Yosemite its been a case of opening my macbook and keeping my fingers crossed and this is not good so i am still an unhappy customer.

On a new laptop (Yosemite) I had trouble. It saw the Airport, rejected the password and gave me an exclamation mark. I can tell you I made a few exclamation marks myself!!

My old laptop was still connecting. New one didn't. I tried a lot of things. What worked in the end was deleting old 'locations' for wi-fi and making a new one.

    1. Open System Preferences. (Under Apple Logo)
    2. Open 'Network' logo
    3. Select Wi-Fi
    4. Select 'Location' tab
    5. Select 'Edit Locations'
    6. Make new Location with new name
    7. Delete all other locations
    8. Re-start your computer and Airport Express (but you may not need to. The connection should be instant)

This worked for me, and I just remembered it has worked for me in the past. I think a new Wi-Fi  location gives you a fresh set of preferences or something so you don't have to get inside your Library and delete files.

Same problem here: wifi problems on my 12'' MacBook from day one. Replaced it for a new one, same issue. Quite unbelievable for a MacBook (I wouldn't recommend it to anyone now), and quite shocking that Apple still hasn't addressed this.
