battery drain a lot after ios 8.3

I had the problem for two years and apple recalled my battery and my sleep button. It took them two years to admit that there was a problem. My camera doesn't work after the update either. It continuously focuses during video. It won't focus when trying to take a pic and they come out blurry. Didn't have ANY of these problems before the update. Just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it wasn't the update.

I have 220 third party apps on 8.3. My battery life is exceptionally good.

Hi lawrence , my battery drain about 1% ever 5 or 6 minutes ! is it sound good ? and I don't know how to charge my battery on the right way even i've done a lot of researches ! Thank you 🙂

good for you, I had restored it as new phone with 0 app and still the same, what about exchanging you phone with mine, maybe you will believe that some devices are facing issues after update not only 8.3 after any update.

I don't know what exactly you want to say by posting these replies, try to be useful and find a solution for it to help us instead.

After deleting apps and having a few fine battery days, the drain reappeared. It turns out that the new version of Exchange (upgraded by employer) that I use for work email also was problematic. Once, a bad email was hanging somehow and the next time it was an automatic reply that was turned off via web app, but the phone was still hunting all the time. Deleted the exchange account. Went through old mail and settings on the computer to clean things up. Added back the exchange account. So far, so good. I guess I wasn't thinking of that as an app. But it is! Hope this helps some of you. Thanks.

Corrupt data in Exchange has been a constant source of battery problems for 7 years, and not just on iPhones. The ActiveSync protocol doesn't handle "surprises" well.

I have the same problem. I updated to 8.3 the other night. The next day my battery drained to 34% after a full charge in less than an hour. I was only playing music. I checked the usage on settings. In the last 24 hours music had used 34% of the battery and Siri 24% when I hadn't used Siri in days. When checking the week usage the music was only 15% for the week. I play music all day long off my phone for about 7 hours a day.

This morning I did a whole charge overnight again. I had open in the background FB, camera, photos, mail, and instagram. I had 100% for 3 hours. Then I turned on my music. After 20 minutes of playing i am down to 86% charge.I used to be able to play all day and be down to 80%-85% at the end of the day. The drain was minimal.

I did a reset all settings yesterday. Now my DD, an ex apple employee tells me I have to do a whole restore. We'll be doing that tonight.

I have never had a battery drain with any other IOS update, so this is why I noticed it right away. I'm no expert and even my own DD doesn't believe me, but it is definitely playing music that is draining my battery.

Tanks for the tip. I had been having the same issue on my iphone 4gs, battery would drain in less than a day. Backed up and reset the download while connected to my PC via iTunes, and now the battery life is back to normal, even after reactivating all the services that were pointed out as possible culprits. From now on I will only install ios updates while connected by a cable.

I am having issues with my battery drain on my iPhone 6 on 8.3. After a hour and 20 minutes of usage i am down to 83% battery. I do not feel as though this is normal. Does anyone else have this problem?

same here iphone 6 draining 1% every 3 mintues ios 8.3 is draining my phone how much usage and standby are you getting on a full charge?

Just to add my experiences

Iphone 6 plus. Upgraded to 8.3 Battery life went from 8-10 hours a day to under 5 hours.

Wiped back to factory - no apps other than standard apple apps. 5 Hr battery life

Did all the fixes for battery life (turn off Bluetooth, location services, all background apps etc). Made the phone basically useless. Still poor battery life.

Am reverting to 8.2 now to see if that makes a difference.

Should also add - I am unable to charge via USB and computer. Plugged it at 23% overnight, next morning was 24%. Same on car charger.

Plugging into the wall adapter of an IPad seems to charge it normally (extra oomph of a Ipad charger).

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that there is some bug in IOS 8.3

BTW: All my Ipads seem to be functioning normal battery life with 8.3 - seems to be restricted to the iphone.

I Installed ios 8.3 one day after its release. It was the first time in my life when I saw the battery percentage dropping while charging and normal usage ( using ipad air bigger charger ) 🙂

my battery usage was very high on safari, then home & ... The installation was made with itunes after full reset of the iPhone. the phone charged at 100% before going to sleep around 23:00-24:00 and it was found at about 30-35% at 7 o'clock in the morning.

the phone is a dec 2014 iphone 6/ 64gb. never had battery drain before in my life since iphone 4 - my first apple phone after switching from sgs 1... I also have an almost new iphone 5s...i'm afraid to update ...it has 8.1.2 now, i think...it's closed now, not used So I cannot give any feedback for other iphone version.

my ipad air 1/ 16gb 4g - was also updated to 8.3, but being afraid of having problem I restored 8.2 the next day... Now I have 8.2 on both ipad and iphone.

it's ok, but still I feel the battery discharging a litle bit , just a little bit ...faster than 8.1.3. I always have 4g enabled, wifi rarely at home ( i have virtually unlimited 4g data plan ), bluetooth on when driving. No gps location active, background app always off, no facebook - don't have an account, no whatsapp, no messanger or email client other than ios default mail client on a gmail account with manual fetch.

IOs 8.3 is just a real battery killer as never seen in my life. I have read that apple silently solved this, but really, now I don't trust this 🙂

with ios 8.2 it's ok... I feel safe about using the phone for one full day.

le: i remembered than first night was perfect... Charged at 100%, found at 100% in the morning, used for overnight and morning news, still 100%, then after using safari and closed ...the disaster came into my attention 🙂

I have problems with my battery since I install IOS 8.3 on my iPhone 6 Plus. It started to drain battery due to background activities from my mails and safari, I have my mails to fetch by hour, and I don't have any other app working in background, including updates.

I downgrade to IOS 8.2, but I upgrade again to 8.3 due to lack of security in IOS 8.2.

My iPad 2 is working perfect with the same setup that I have on my iPhone 6 Plus.

I hope Apple can solve this problem soon.

Apple is not going to solve this problem soon. In fact, Apple is not going to solve this problem ever. It is a problem with your phone. It is not a problem with 8.3 or with any other version of iOS. You have to fix it. You can get help by reading the messages already posted.

This is how I fixed it for myself.

I backed up my phone in iTunes. I then did an Erase all Contents ans Settings and then reloaded my iTunes back up to my phone. I then waited and let the phone do a full drain and recharged it overnight. It seemed to fix my problem. This is exactly what they would do if you took it into an Apple Store. I personally know someone who works at Apple and this is what I was told to do before I took it in.

IT has been said in here to always do your updates connected to your computer. While I have not done this in the past, this time it helped. In the future I will connect my device to my computer and do updates through iTunes.

I agree with you. There was something in this update that is causing this. I don't care what others may continuously say about how it's not that. But when the phone is working fine and then you do an update and it doesn't it is the update. You know how your phone works on a daily basis, so reust your intuition. Will Apple fix this? Yep. But you will never have them admit it, just like in the past when bugs have been in the updates before.

I hope this helps you instead of being told its you and not the phone. Not true.
