Edits not transferred using Photostream

This makes no sense whatsoever. I understood this issue back in the days of iPhoto not accepting edits performed in iPhone/iPad's Photos app. They were two different applications (i.e., Photos vs iPhoto). But now with Photos for Mac, I would think that any edits I make on my iPhone's Photos app would be preserved when they are synced via Photostream to my Mac's Photos app. But they are not.

This may be not the case with iCloud. But I don't need nor want to pay for storage beyond 5GB. The last 30 days of photos is just fine for my needs.

It is just meant to work differently from what you are expecting. My Photo Stream has always transferred the original images, to preserve the highest quality. You take a phot on the iPhone and it will be transferred instantly before any edits are applied. If you wnat to transfer the edits via photostream, you have to copy the edited version to the Camera roll and the edited version will be streamed to your other devices as well.

My Photo Stream is a relict from the first OS X versions, that supported iCloud. Photos for Mac is meant to be used with iCloud Photo Library. If you are using iCloud Photo Library all your edits will sync between your devices and will be automaticaly updated, if you apply new edits.
