iTunes 12.1.2 will not open

After upgrading to iTunes 12.1.2, iTunes will not launch. Here is what I have found in the console.

This terminal command is a force delete of iTunes. just re-installing iTunes didn't work so you have to delete it and fresh install like Ben shows us...Thanks again!!!

Had the same problem - reloaded the system software was on with apple support for over an hour - used the sudo command and reloaded iTunes and it's back - thanks Ben.d!

This worked for me:

1 Go to the finder menu bar at the top of the screen

2Click go

3 click applications

4 go down to iTunes and right click on Show Package Contents

5 open contents folder then go to mac os folder

6 open the terminal marked iTunes in that folder

This should force it to open and function enough, it will not allow importing of music from a desk top

Terminal command did not work. after running "sudo rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app" I got the following response:

-bash: sudo rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app: No such file or directory

Fixed mine using terminal fix; however used: sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app

the exact problem has happened to me, i cant open my itunes nor use "erase my free space in disk utility. Plus my new mac take forever to start after updating (macbook pro 2014 retina)

sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app This got my iTunes back after 12.1.2 update
