Lightning cable won't stay in iphone

When I connect the lightning cable to the phone it will charge and then I have to carefully set it down and leave it untouched. If I receive a phone call or message the phone will vibrate and the cord comes out and stops charging. It also comes out if I pick up the phone or try to use it while it's charging. Is there a way to repair the 'teeth' that hold the cable?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1.3

I could kick myself for not checking this post earlier! I used an unfolded paperclip and emptied lint from the port for 10mn. Using a vacuum cleaner may also help and be more gentle? Now I can shake my iPhone with cord, and it continues to charge. Thank you !

Could you explain this is more detail. I would like to know exactly how you did this as I have this problem on my iPhone 6 and its really annoying

With a good light and perhaps even a magnifier, check the port on the phone for lint or other debris that might be interfering with the connection. Use a non-conductive tool such as a toothpick to remove whatever you find.

I would avoid both paper clips (as they are metal) and vacuum cleaners.
