Yosemite Photos iCloud photo sharing not working

So I bit the bullet, drank the kool-aid, and converted my primary iPhoto library to Photos with Yosemite 10.10.3.

Overall, fairly impressed, but the iPhoto Shared library has some issues. I had (have) for shared photo streams from the iPhoto library. Those still show up on all of the subscribers devices (mobile and desktop).

The first time I started Photos after the conversion, I went to the "Shared" tab and saw textual representation of the shared photo streams were there, but after a period of time, disappeared. Now, each time I go to the shared tab, it "Scans for recent shared activity", but always comes back as if nothing is shared. and gives the button to "Start Sharing".

I've tried starting new shared streams, modifying one of the old streams from a different device, but absolutely nothing will show the shared streams, nor cal I share anything new.

I have no intention of using the iCloud Photo Library (too expensive for me and not sure I'm that trusting yet).

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Anyone else getting the shared photo streams working in Photos?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), Photos App

Hi - no this is not the only thread mentioning this issue. There are several others. You need to do a search for Mac Photo Sharing, or Mac Photos iCloud Photo Sharing and other variations. Searching does not deliver consistent or even repeatable results. You need to keep trying with different variations in the search string on different occasions.

Most are reporting the problem starting up after a Time Machine Restore - which I guess not many users are doing that frequently.

I have submitted a support request to Apple using https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

Maybe more users should feed this problem back.

Thank you all (and JaegerMann) for such clear posts. I have exactly the same issue and I have, as suggested, sent a problem report to Apple.

In my case:

1. Installed latest Yosemite.

2. Converted iPhoto Library.

3. Had Hard Disk replaced under AppleCare (Long story short! 🙂)

4. Restored entire HDD from Time Machine.

3. Opened restored Photos Library, and made sure it was the "System Library".

4. Verified after several restarts that neither my Shared Streams nor those to which I had subscribed over the years were being loaded. The same screen suggesting I "start Sharing" appeared.

5. Verified that all the Shared Streams are still available both through IOS machines and on another Macos Computer running Yosemite with a different library also loaded to Yosemite Photos.

6. Verified that the streams are also available on the second machine when running Aperture.

The variable really does seem to be the Time Machine Restore......

Thank you all for sharing this issue and your collective results. I have the same issue and I have an open case with Apple - it's currently being investigated by their senior engineers.

If I create a "test" standard user account on the same affected MacBook Pro, sign into iCloud and create a new Photo library, I am able to see the shared streams. In my case the issue is isolated to my user account. I didn't have this issue with the shared streams until after restoring my system in troubleshooting a separate 'black screen' video issue on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)

Steps performed:

Formatted my original Macintosh HD and performed a clean install of Mac OS X 10.10.3 from the recovery partition

Restored my user profile from a Time Machine backup using Migration Assistant

Opened my restored Photos Library and made sure it was the "System Library"

Unchecked the options for "My Photo Stream" & "iCloud Photo Sharing" and then reenabled these options after quitting System Preferences (I do not use "iCloud Photo Library" & this has always been unchecked)

Signed out of iCloud, deleted all data and then signed back into iCloud

Verified after several restarts that neither my shared photo streams nor those to which I had subscribed and/or created were being loaded. The same screen suggesting I "start sharing" appears

Verified that all the shared streams in question are still available both through my other iOS devices and on another iMac running Mac OS X 10.10.3

Apple has also suggested that I delete the following items found within the user Library however, this did not resolve the issue:

-------------

com.apple.Photos (folder)

com.apple.iPhoto.LSSharedFileList.plist

com.apple.iPhoto.plist

com.apple.Photos.LSSharedFileList.plist

-------------

I have been instructed to use the Apple provided application "Capture Data" to capture default information from my Mac and I have uploaded the created ACCD parts for review.

I will provide an update to this thread when I have more information to share.

Having same problem too on my dad's mini in exactly same scenario of restoring after installing a new SSD. I noticed the following in the console log:

26/04/2015 08:47:03.685 cloudphotosd[1234]: Library manager initialization for com.apple.photo.icloud.sharedstreams failed: Error Domain=com.apple.reddwarf Code=18 "RDErrorServiceDatabaseOpenError" UserInfo=0x7f98d1483650 {NSURL=file:///Users/Philip1/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd/Data/Library/App lication%20Support/com.apple.cloudphotosd/services/com.apple.photo.icloud.shared streams/com.apple.photo.icloud.sharedstreams-1696643116.cloudphotoservicelibrary /, NSLocalizedDescription=RDErrorServiceDatabaseOpenError, NSUnderlyingError=0x7f98d155bf00 "LiErrorWritingDataModelVersionPlist"}

Don't speak Apple code myself but I'm not sure that the folder path mentioned is there either after the restore.

Matt - I'm seeing a similar error in my console log:

The created date of Sunday, 12 April 2015 18:57 is interesting as I restored with Migration Assistant on 23 April 2015 so this is obviously the restored folder; AND, there is data within (503.9 MB) - when looking at the Thumbnails I am seeing the photos I would expect to see in my shared photo streams, however they of course aren't showing within the Photos app.

The other folder, com.apple.photo.icloud.myphotostream has a similar created date of Sunday, 12 April 2015 18:53 and is to me, surprisingly small in size (1.5 MB)

I am contemplating a deletion of these folders and a subsequent retest...!

I deleted this folder, restarted Photos but the issue still remained. I also noticed that Photos didn't recreate this folder.

My next step was to uncheck the options for "My Photo Stream" & "iCloud Photo Sharing" in System Preferences> iCloud and then reenable these options.

I then reopened the Photos app: lo and behold the shared photo streams are now visible!

Created today - 3.26 GB and increasing in size as the shared streams synchronise.

As I like to say, this is "more better than good!" 😉

Thank you LaCollision for your contribution to this thread which allowed for my subsequent fix to this issue! I trust others with this issue will find this thread useful.
