Can I go back to my iPhoto and not photo app?
I did not realize I would be losing iPhoto on my MAC when I updated today OS yosemite to photo app. Can I reverse? do I lose all my albums and folders I had?
MacBook, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Make a backup of the Pictures folder just to be safe.
1. Delete the new Photos Library.
2. Open iPhoto.
3. Use iPhoto as normal.
You can use the Image Capture app to re-select iPhoto as the default app to open when you plug in your iPhone/iPad, etc.
This didn't work for me. It is still telling me that I need the "updated version", and iPhoto has a slash mark over it. :-(

I did it three times yesterday without a problem. I've been participating in quite a few threads in this forum and never heard of iPhoto having a slash over it.
If you want the latest version of iPhoto, and you got it from the App Store, then you should make a .zip of iPhoto (right click, make archive), then delete it from your Applications folder. Then go to the Mac App Store, purchased tab, find iPhoto in the list, and download it. You'll get the latest version (9.6) that works on Yosemite.
If this doesn't work, then contact AppleCare, and they can walk you through it. As long as you still have your iPhoto library, you can use iPhoto 9.6 on Yosemite.
You need iPhoto 9.6.1 for 10.10.3. If you haven't updated to 9.6.1 before upgrading to 10.10.3, you will need to delete iPhoto, and reinstall it from the App store.
I didn't get mine from the app store, I've had it all along, with all my applications, continuously. The app store will not show me iPhoto, only complimentary programs. I'm running a new machine that came with Yosemite resident on it.
I have iPhoto still in my Applications folder and can open the old iPhoto library without any problem!!
Same here. I reinstalled the osx and the iPhoto app disappeared. I tried to find it in the app store but no result.. Do you have any idea?
Thank you Tom, but for me unfortunately it's not on the hidden purchases page.😕
I'd suggest you contact AppleCare. They can probably help you with this, if you _never_ had iPhoto through the App Store.
I went to applications- found iPhoto there and clicked on it and saved it on my dock. THANSK TO RAFFY1 comment. All albums and pics are there. I even added photos to iPhoto again and edited. So now have both on my dock. Someone else had said I would not be able to add or edit in iPhoto anymore, but that is not the case. I have a genius bar appt to verify all and be able to keep both. Hope this helps.

Thanks soon much. Went to applications folder and found iPhoto clicked and it is back on my dock working like before allowing me to add photos and edit. You are a life saver and then some.
I never downloaded iPhoto with this apple id. Does it mean I can't use it in the future?!
It was an update for OS X . Not sure. Will check at genius bar and let you know
