Photos, unlike iPhoto, appears to lock you in to the app. I can't find anyway of editing an image in PhotoShop.

No. You can export of course - file -> Export
But I believe that you need to wait for developers to write extensions that will hook into the app.
Thanks, yes that does work, it threw me that a file navigation window didn't appear immediately. So a bit clumsy having the file name and location as separate tasks. Let's hope Adobe create a plug in PDQ.
I used to just drag and drop from iPhoto to Photoshops dock icon but that doesn't work in Photos app anymore....

Well that wasn't the way to do it either. It was designed for a lossless workflow using Photoshop as an external editor in the Preferences. Seamless there and back.
I feel like dbakker, I have been copying photos from iPhoto into Photoshop for ages, this was more than useful to me. I can't understand why Apple did this. When I try to do a copy paste, I end-up with a poor 1024x768 image, this isn't what I wanted, I want the original pic
Now I need to find out how to go back to iPhotos and get rid of photos.
Aaand... this is one of a number of reasons why I now use Adobe on Windows for Photo and Video work... Apple workflow used to be MUCH cleaner than Windows, now it's the opposite.
Actually in the intervening two years many things have changed and now Photos is even easier to use for external editors than iPhoto and Aperture were

I would suggest using the option "Export Unmodified Original for x Photos", then you can even export RAW photos and photos that were taken in RAW and JPEG at the same time.
Actually using the External editors for Photos extension from the App store is a much better option
