Do as much science and math as you can. Getting involved in something like FIRST robotics would be good. As previously stated, try to take a programming class or play with computer programming on your own (Java or Python is a good place to start).
Software engineering also requires excellent communication skills. Software components need to work together, but can be designed in infinitely many ways; if the specifics of how components will work together isn't explicitly communicated, they will not work together. Therefore, doing well in English is important and taking classes like public speaking or psychology can be quite helpful.
