Photos for Mac, stuck on "updating" trying to upload to iCloud Photos Library

Same problem here. I have 16000. The program has uploaded half of those almost in three days. Turned off all energy saving features. I did send complaint through the apple.com/feedback. The prob is there is no discussion for Photos just iPhoto. Also on the feedback there is no selection of 10.10.3. Go figure that!

Also stuck on "Updating...". In addition to not uploading photos to iCloud, there have plenty of photos that have not downloaded to the library on the Mac. I can see them on iCloud.com and on my iPhone.

I've tried all the things proposed here - restart multiple times, disable/reenable iCloud Photo Library, energy saver settings, sign out of iCloud, update system in Mac App Store. No meaningful network or disk activity in Activity Monitor.

My setup:

As jordy_s here, I have my Photos Library stored on an en external 2TB WD My Passport connected via USB3 to 2012 Retina MBP. Photo Library migrated from Aperture. It's a fairly straightforward set-up.

I guess I should have followed perceived wisdom and not use 1.0 Apple software. I was mistakenly hoping that the public beta would have taken care of such bugs.

I finally figured out what was causing my problem.

Just to be sure, I turned off photo sharing on all of my apple devices. I have been running it for many months/years now.

It was a total of 4 devices, 2 Apple TV's, an iPad, and a iPhone.

I then deleted all photos in the Cloud.

After that I did a repair database on the database that Photos had built on my IMAC

Fixed ALL my problems. It took about 6 hours to upload about 5000 pictures using an 8MB upload internet connection from Comcast.

I can now access them from everywhere and any changes are immediately seen on all devices.

Repair database appeared to do the trick.

I just got home this AM. Spent night elsewhere. It appeared that Photos had finished uploading photos. Checked devices but couldn't see any. Went to icloud online and clicked on Photos. It said building photo library. It kept saying that until I accidentally closed the window. When I reopened, the photos show. I think most but it is impossible to say for sure since I hacve 16,000. However, the file size indicated in system/icloud prefs appears to match what I had in iPhoto.

I haven't restarted iphone or ipad but many of the photos have not showed up on those devices yet.

Stevefrom LosAltos, How did you delete all photos from iCloud. Appears you need to select each one and delete individually. Is there a way to clear them all? Also, how do you repair the database?

In the browser window for the iCloud select photos. When it opens you will see an option to select photos at the top.

Go to your first photo and select it. Scroll down to your last photo and while holding the select key select it. All photos will then be selected and can be deleted.

Be sure that is NOT your only copy or they will be lost, though you can recover them from deleted files for 30 days.

I had all my photos saved on photos on my Mac before I started just in case.

To repair the photos database see below from APPLE

Repair your library

If you experience problems with photos in a library, Photos can try to repair it. If problems persist, you can also restore your library from a Time Machine backup.

Important: You should back up your photo library before repairing your library.

1. If Photos is open, choose Photos > Quit Photos.
2. Press Option-Command and double-click the Photos icon in the Applications folder (or click the Photos icon in the Dock).The Repair Library window opens.
3. Click Repair to rebuild your photo library.

This is so frustrating- 4 days and only 800 of my 3000 photos have uploaded. I have plenty of iCloud storage, I've rebooted, signed in and out, paused, just about everything suggested and still no resolution. There has to be a better solution- Apple really blew this program.

Has anyone from Apple chimed in with a solution to this mess? I have been downloading my iPhoto library (12,000 pics) for 3 straight days and have only gotten ~2,500 into the Cloud. This is a freaking joke right now!!!! I expected better from Apple when they rolled the Photos app out. The reviews in different publications raved about the app but said nothing about the process.

this seems a common problem. I have managed to get 500 pics uploaded in the past 5 days. Still 2800 to go. It is very irritating that you just cannot see what is going on. Any new photos I add go straigh up to the cloud. But it is the back catalo. Not very good example of Apple's it just works mantra! Will try seeing if any update etc as suggested here. Any other suggestions greatly received.

I have 39000 pix. Apple sold me a $9.99/mo deal based on their calculation that I needed to be in their 500GB Plan. This is a joke.

The upload just does not get past 42.5 GB. Gets stuck and no amount of voodoo (of the sort described in these posts) helps.

What is it going to take to get someone's attention. The incredible amount of time lost and agitation and idle 500GB disk space that is paid for in advance. Naturally - this is Apple. No less.

As per the above poster. Apple sold me a 500Gb plan. It's been stuck since day one release. I halved my iPhoto library from 500GB to 250GB to test this out.

So pleased I did as it's struck trying to upload 16000 items, the app got down to 7000 at one point, but reopening the Photos app it's back upto 16000 again.

It's a complete mess, looking in Pictures folder there's both iPhoto and Photos app libraries each at 250GB. Photos added in the last few days are only in the Photos app not iPhoto. I'm feeling completely helpless in this process and concerned about losing my photos.

My Mac isn't downloading any new photos taken on my iOS devices either. Useless.

I am having the same problems here on my macbook air. In addition to not being able to upload all of my photos, I am unable to see any of the new photos taken on an iPad on an iPad. I do get the new photo on my macbook air. But the folder April 2015 Photo Stream remains empty on all machines. Rebooting and having installed all updates have not solved the issue. So as of today there are still over 8000 images to upload of the initial 18000 images that I started with. I have had the program running 24/7 since the new os was released. It is now stalled on 8000 images to upload.

This situation is getting worse, not better. Between 10 PM and 6 AM last night, the system uploaded 20 (yes, 20) freaking pictures from my 12,000 photo library!!!! At this rate it would take 7 more months to complete this task....seriously Apple?

Is anyone else wondering why no one from Apple tech support is commenting or responding to these concerns? You think they are all sitting around going OMG *** did we just do here!!!!

Jmrtexcol, Do you think apple techs read any of this? Or is there another way to get help? I have access to 9 iPads, 5 desktops and 3 laptops all apple products. I am having a real problem getting them to all work with this new photo system. It worked fine in all the years I have had apple products. In this case it is kind of feeling like a windows product to me.
