Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Are there two bugs in the forums?

1. The forums only seem to list who opened the original question, not who last posted. To keep track of my own replies, I need to see who last posted. How to do this? (It used to be there before they redesigned).

2. Similarly, how do I get to see only UNREAD posts, not have to start again from the top?

It will take some 'tweaking' but some here use a CSS & other stuff to achieve what you want, like this?

For best ASC forum results Use Hiroto's changes. See items 6 below.

There is a missing column. Was four columns ( ??? ) now only three. They reduced the lettering size to get more information on the line. I guess you could say they are listening, but can get over that they are wrong about the layout.

With the real thing:

Does show last poster. It's worded as by .... Bit misleading by it's ASC.

Discussion lists do not.

Here is my ASC work flow...

1) I login.

2) Block the automatic 30 minute logout.

Unless you do something every thirty minutes you get logged out. The forum software waits to tell you this as long as it can to keep you in suspense ;-) . Filling out a reply is the exception to the thirty minute window.

Start an auto reloader. Thanks to ChitlinsCC.

  1. Safari = SafariTabReloader
  2. Firefox = ReloadEvery: "Reload web pages automatically"
  3. Others = Reloaders | Cerberus - Support Center
You need to pick a page that will reload over time without stalling out. It's ASC. I've found my profile display the best to use. I get my Profile page after some logins. It's ASC. Change rccharles to your apple id.

Reply technique

Open a new browser window. Pick some discussion. Open a reply window. As long as this reply window is open, you will stay logged in. The 30 minute times is reset as needed by the ASC software.

3) I open another window to do my normal ASC browsing.

4) I have a FireFox bookmark to goto the discussions that I have participated in. I've modified it to add on the content stuff.

turingtest2 recommends. Change rccharles to your apple id:

https://discussions.apple.com/profile/rccharles/content?filterID=participated~obj ecttype~objecttype%5Bthread%5D

5) Use turingtest2's generated links with the /content suffix as browser bookmark to the ASC discussions:

Site map of Communities and Categories

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2463

6) Adjust the ASC web page layout.

For FireFox

I run with Hiroto's modification to user content. This is the only way these forums are readable for me. How to adjust the format and layout of ASC Web Pages:

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7501

For Safari

"ASCPowerTools is a Safari Extension designed to give more control"

http://www.etresoft.com/ascpowertools

7) Read and answer my old posts. I kind of memorize the time I last posted. ( It's way bad that apple eliminated the last poster to a thread. )

8) I use tabbed browsering. From a list of discussions, hold down the command key then click on the link. You get two tabs this way. The original window will keep where you have been.

I am using them, if indeed they are from last summer's UserTip.

This is my recollection about columns:

  • 4 columns until very recently - ZERO Zoom MINUS TWO(2)
  • if one uses browsers ZERO Zoom (I use 0 - 1) CSS trimmed it to TWO - replies and views (I could care less about Bookmarks & whatever the other one was - replies is OK but I rarely even look at 'em)

Last poster

... does not appear without Stylish invoked

Firefox (Ten4Fox) + Stylish = Zoom-2(designed view) = Zoom-1(my preferred) = Zoom=0(defaultFF)

FF, 1024x768 -- see how some of the stuff moves around? The right column of (redundant) categories jumps to the bottom in #2 & 3

I employ Using ASC as my Reloader page and Base Camp instead of MyProfile like you do.

I VERY rarely use either of my own content or activity pages - relying instead on email notices - I delete a bunch of emails though

Ok. I've two questions about that, and a HUGE sense of puzzlement.

1. Even without Stylish, you show at least 5 columns in the lists. I've just been into the iPhoto Discussions to check, and there are only TWO columns! The name of the topic, and who started it. How on earth do you show all those extra columns, including 'Latest activity'?

2. I've had Stylish for a while in Safari, though I only used it for one website, with a lot of hand-holding. What needs to be done in the Apple discussions to get that cool layout and functioning?

  1. add " /content " to the end of any forum main page URL
    1. The "columns" to which I and Robert referred are the very narrow columns just left of the right-most 'last post timestamp' = views & replies
    2. " /content?filterID=contentstatus[published]~objecttype~objecttype[thread] " is the addition that:
      1. gets the more robust display AND
      2. tells the CSS in Stylish how to display the parameters' contents to taste

the Magenta-ish color is my color choice based on a separate CSS by turingtest2 added to the one in the User Tip following

  2. This from Robert's earlier post - ASCPowerTools I have heard is cool, but I have an old PowerBook & OSX Tiger is unsupported

You should create a Stylish "Style" of Adjust the format and layout of ASC Web Pages at https://userstyles.org/styles/new - I tried but am having an error on line 372 when copy > paste the entirety of the Working Perfectly Style from Stylish editor.

I have a discussion on the problem > https://forum.userstyles.org/discussion/45635/cannot-upload-new-style-style-in-w ide-use#latest but every thing I understand User uploaded filehideheader to say is not working - even when I do it every way possible, the SiteWare there rejects the 372 line

User uploaded filehideheader states there is a UserStyles.org bug - go figger! a bug in forum software?

Apr 11, 2015 4:04 PM in response to ChitlinsCC

I'll look more into this.

I think at some point I dropped making comments everywhere. Got tired of commenting everything. Might just delete comment. I'll need to look at the style and come up with my commenting style to see were and if to move.

It's the weekend.

I remember being confused about how to upload a style, so skipped it.

It seems that uploading a Style should be pretty much a no brainer...

  1. https://userstyles.org/styles/new
  2. I did a bunch of fancy copy > paste stuff with the Title, description, further comments from the text of Adjust the format and layout of ASC Web Pages
  3. Stylish Tool from the toolbar
    User uploaded file
    1. Manage Styles
    2. Edit EXISTING & Working "Hiroto's Style"
    3. Select All - the CSS portion
  4. Paste into the CSS portion of 'Create New Style' <userstyles.org/styles/new>
  5. Upload screenshots
  6. Save = error
    ----
1 error prohibited this style from being saved
There were problems with the following fields:
    Style code has an error - parse error on value " " (S) on line 372 around "h: 1265px) /* v0.6 */".
    ----

==> Is the line 372 a "COMMENT"?? <== looks very "codeString-like" to me, with a 'version' COMMENT "right-justified"

365 = beginComment

370 = endComment

371 = NULL

372 = codeString [a bunch of spaces] beginComment "v0.6" endComment

373 = openBracket

Our new friend there sez:

User uploaded file

I am taking this to mean a "userstyles.org" bug in Checking the code before finalizing the upload ? ?

I further took this post to mean:

  1. find the top string
  2. Paste the bottom string in its place
  3. ERRORed again this time with line 697 (the END of the CSS)
The 'open bracket' added in bottom string wanted a 'close bracket' at line 697 ?? = CANNOT have EVER worked !!

I am unwilling to post something FIXED that "ain't broke" to start with, just to please a BUG in the UserStyles.org SiteWare

It is weird that one cannot UPLOAD a working Style from the Stylish Editor and have THAT checked for errors (and moderated if they wish)

Ah well... if one cannot Comment one's code to make sense of it all after one sleeps...

buenos noches, amigo
