Can the apple cinema display hook up to a new MacBook (i.e. is there an appropriate adaptor)?
Is there an appropriate adaptor to hook the new MacBook (USB-C port) to the Cinema Display?

Look on Apple's Online Store to see if it's available yet.
Thanks for the answer. All I see are adaptors for VGA and HDMI. None for the mini displayport or thunderbolt.
Given the MacBook won't ship for 3-4 weeks I'd expect they will show up between now and then.
I have the same question. I actually have the new laptop coming this week. There is no posted way to plug the displays mini display port into the USB-C.
The following thread is someone looking for similar for their Thunderbolt Display
How to connect Apple Thunderbolt Display to new Retina MacBook?
How about this device:
http://www.cablestogo.com/product/54179
"Connect a device with an HDMI output to a display with a DisplayPort input"
plus the Apple USB-C to HDMI adapter:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MJ1K2AM/A/usb-c-digital-av-multiport-adapter?f node=51
However the combined cost is about $200 (plus cables)
Thank you Michael, good find. Yes the cost does start to add up. It may just be better to buy a new HDMI display.
What kind of Cinema display? Some can be connected via adapters but may not allow charging the MacBook while connected,
There are no converters, adapters, or cables that will make a Thunderbolt display work with a computer that has no Thunderbolt port.
The Apple HDMI adapter allows the Macbook to be charged while it is using an external display (via HDMI)
Even if an Apple Thunderbolt display was compatible with the Macbook video output you would not have all of the other docking features of the TB display available to the Macbook (extra USB ports, charging etc).
BTW - there is another discussion about TB displays:
