Hey Apple took my storage upgrade fee and iCloud sync since the 10.10.3 update crashes my iMac with no warning. I had to turn off iCloud just to use my machine so I could work without risk of loosing data. Until you've got several hours of usage while the iCloud sync is running DO NOT RISK your data.

iI didn't think it was a back up. As I understand it, if I store my photos in the icloud library then I wIlll be able to access any of my photos any time on all my devices with new Photo App.. Have I got it wrong? My photos are backed up anyway.
Yes, that is correct, your photos are stored in iCloud, so any device that works with iCloud can access them. As you obviously know backup is a separate affair.
Hi,
The slow upload speed I have is to be expected in a village in the UK apparently. There is nothing I can do about it, so I have abandoned the idea of using the iCloud library for now . I have changed my storage plan back to what it was and have redeemed the photos that were in the cloud , so no harm done. I am very disappointed, but that's life. I shall be very sorry to lose Aperture when it goes too. Do people at Apple read these posts? If they do, then take note. Up until now I have always been a very happy customer in love with the whole Apple thing. Now - not so sure. I know the upload issue is not they're fault, but there will be lots of UK Apple users with problems. Perhaps they do not care. As I understand Photo is not for serious photographers, people who have been more than happy with Aperture. I am just an amateur but loved Aperture and I have already noticed things I used are not available in Phoyos. Hopefully some later upgrades will address this.
Sorry for for the rant - probably not the place to do it.
Thanks for for you help . My issue was resolved, if not to my satisfaction!!!!!! I will just carry on doing it the old way.
My Dear girl, you are being fed a line, I live (some of the time) in London, the UK is well served for internet. You can probably get a faster line with a bit of well aimed complaint (I'm English but living in the USA taught me how to complain, you're probably too nice 🙂) Aperture won't go away, but it also won't be further developed.
Photos and the iCloud Photo Library are different, you can use Photos with storing the pics online but Photos, while an improvement on iPhoto is certainly not a replacement for Aperture.
Do not let your ISP tell you that low speed is normal, it is so low it does not qualify as broadband, an old fashioned telephone modem would be just about as fast, and I assume you are paying someone for this derisory deal.
Good luck 🙂
I Have 14,000 photos. It might take months ! I just increased my upload speed from optimum. I let everyone know how it works. I figured I can always cancel it at any time. For $4.95 a month. If it works it's money well spent.
After lots of advice i have abandoned the idea. I could've taken my imac to my son's in London. His broadband is very fast, but don't think it's worth it.
I am sticking with the old way - selecting what I want on my devices and syncing. After all it wasn't too onerous and no one else will want to see anything going back years.
Uploading my library took 3 days, but that doesn't tell us anything about how long yours will take.
What is the total size of the library, and what is your upload speed (measure it at speedof.me)
The total is 20.157 photos, - can't work out speed at the moment.
It's impossible to give even a rough estimate without that information. It could be anywhere from hours, to days.
TThanks - I will just have to be patient.
TThanks I will have to be patient. I am currently into the second day!,
Thank you Christopher, that is really useful Information. My internet connection is not great at the best of times.
I Have got 210 GB to upload. Other people seem to be waiting for ever. Apple have taken my payment to increase my storage fast enough..
Apple do not control your connection speed, if you want faster then pay your ISP for faster.
At 5Mb/s your upload will take more than 100 hours, wait.
