iTunes won't acknowledge my ipod classic

my classic 160gb is recognised by my laptop, displays the "connected" screen, but isn't seen by itunes. Would do a factory restore or something, but as my laptop is only a couple months old, iTunes was on the old one, and when the itunes library was transferred over, along with the music, of course itunes doesn't know the locations of them all,10000+ all in foldersof course, so that's out of the window.

itunes is up to date, windows 8.

thanks

iPod classic 160GB (Late 2009), Windows 8

Hi clarkie18,

If your new laptop is only a couple of months old, do you still have the old computer or a backup of the iTunes library from your old computer to work with? The article below explains how to move a library to a new computer if that's still an option.

Hey There clarkie18,

The exclamation point means that iTunes can't find the path to the songs to play them. I'm still not clear if you had backed up your Music folder from your older computer to an external drive, so that you can copy to your new one.

The resource below will explain what to do if your songs appear to be missing:

I have similar problem this evening- I started with synching my ipad air, then Ipad 2, both ok-my ipod 160 classic was next and synched. Then my 1 minute later ipod 80 DID NOT synch.

when I went back to 160 it did not synch.

Do I have to wait til the next itunes software update? I REALLY do not want to reinstall and spend hours rebuilding or setting up library etc.

any ideas?

TIA

iTunes won't acknowledge my ipod classic
