After upgrade to iOS 8.3 screen reader in iBooks crashes

It happened on my iPhone 4S and iPad Air today After an upgrade.

When in iBooks, screen reader reads the page on the screen, finishes reading the text, turns the page but gives up (crashes?) immediately after. the reader "toolbar" simply disappears.

Before the upgrade it would turn the page and continue reading. Not anymore.

google doesn't seem to know anything about this.

Can anyone else confirm the behaviour? I tried it on several PDFs - the same behaviour.

Close all apps and do a reset ie hold the power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears. If that doesn't work, delete the PDFs (email or transfer them to your computer beforehand if you like) then try a different PDF.

Resetting doesn't help, nor does choosing a different pdf I never opened before.

WIll try try deleting and resetting tomorrow but this seems like quite an extreme measure.

Doesn't work. Screen reader for PDFs is broken by 8.3 update. ePUBs work fine. Very disappointed in apple's lack of testing of accessibility features.

Your observation is right. I am facing the same issue after upgrading to iOS 8.3. The trial and error was common with Microsoft 🙂.. it seems Apple is catching up with MS 🙂.

I hope they address this issue quickly.

This is terrible. Such a great feature--allowed me to listen to any PDF in the car on my regular long trips. Now I have to resort to bringing an older spare iPhone 4s in the car just for this purpose. They better fix this in 8.3.1. I've been buying Apple stuff since the 90s and I will say that quality control at Apple has hit new lows.

Hi

I am facing the same issue. Apple is playing trial and error game. The speak screen function is a boon for travellers, after consistent crashes, there is no point in using this function.

Dear apple, please fix the bug so that we can use the function, else buying the costly phone seems to be not justified.
