Q: Microsoft Designer Bluetooth Mouse is not detected in 10.10.3

Microsoft Designer Bluetooth Mouse is not getting detected as a bluetooth mouse on OSX 10.10.3. During pairing, it just shows up as a bluetoth device and after some time, there is a popup that no mouse is connected. Also, when you try to add the mouse though Mouse->Add a Bluetooth Mouse screen, the mouse is not gettng detected.

But the mouse works once its paired, but its not seen as a Mouse by OSX. Its just being detected as a generic bluetooth device.

OS X 10.10 is not listed as a compatible operating system for that mouse by Microsoft.

I bought this mouse for my Mac(s), too. It also works with Mavericks (10.9.5) on both Mac mini (late 2012) and rMBP (late 2013). However, I find the mouse rather finicky. Sometimes it just doesn't connect regardless what you do, which makes it a rather frustrating experience. I think I'm going to return this mouse because the frustration just doesn't worth it. Otherwise it would be a decent mouse.

Hi Kaukrish, this is how I solved it!

    Here's a little late reply:

I had exactly the same problem, this what I did..

It seems like The Microsoft Designer Mouse don't like to be the second woman.

So to make her happy again, do this:

    1. Disconnect all other devices that are paired with your computer (In the Bluetooth menu in System Preferences... do a "mouse over" over the other bluetooth devices and click the X and disconnect all of them)'

    2. Push the little button on the bottom side of the mouse to re-connect it to your computer. Hopefully this works for you as it did for me!

    3. When the Microsoft Designer Mouse is paired, connect all other devices again.

She seems to be OK with you fooling around with other bluetooththongs, as long as you hook up with her first. :-)

    Good Luck / Michael

Thank you for the advice. I did exactly just that; removed all bluetooth devices attached to the computer (MacBook Air), and immediately after that, the mouse appeared to be paired up.

Hope everyone has the same success.

Good advice, but I find a few things:

    1. You need to fiddle quite a bit -- turn off and on BT etc before this happens
    2. OSX doesn't recognise it as a Bluetooth mouse so you can't tweak the settings much. Result: it's hopelessly imprecise
    3. Turn off the mouse and it won't reconnect. In fact you'll likely see more than one 'Designer Mouse' trying to pair.

Black eye for Microsoft here. Very unclear and inconsistent specs and no guidance on pairing for OSX. And very poor implementation. Don't buy one of these if you have a Mac.

I solved the problem this way:

    1. Shut down the mouse

    2. Push the power button for more than 5 seconds (try to avoid pushing other buttons)

    3. Blue light underneath starts blinking and the mouse appear on the bluetooth devices list

    4. Pair it

There were a couple other threads regarding the keyboard, but none that truly helped.  Hoping those watching this thread have more insight.

I have Yosemite on my early-2008 iMac (EMC 2211), and looking to move to a wireless keyboard to free up a UBS port.

I'm tracking the conversation regarding the mouse, but how well does the keyboard integrate with OS X?  Setup, Bluetooth linking, Keyboard shortcuts?  It's price is coming into a more reasonable range, but as there is not a lot of reviews for OS X with this keyboard, I wanted to get a feeling before making the purchase.

This mouse strictly support only for Bluetooth version 4 or higher...  Most of the macs hard (old mac machines)  have  version of 2.1 or lower than required.  Before buying this mouse check your hardware first...

I bought this mouse a few months ago and I had this problem of detection in my macbook pro. In fact, the mouse wasn't been detected at all. Recently I upgraded my Mac to OSX El Capitan 10.11.3 (15D21) and everything is all right now ! It seems that Apple upgraded the Bluetooth driver to support such devices (mouse and keyboards). My Mac is quite recent (MacBookPro11,2).

Was this ever resolved? I have the same problem with the microsoft designer mouse. My Macbook only recognizes it as a generic bluetooth device, so it never reconnects properly when the system wakes up.

I've been at it all day trying to get the MS Designer Bluetooth Desktop to pair with my new MacBook Air. Can't get the keyboard to pair. The item looks beautiful, the price is reasonable and it has a number pad. Unfortunately, it doesn't work and Microsoft support is awful. I now remember why I switched to Apple in the first place. This is not worth the trouble and is going back in the morning.
