I am getting this error message after the following process:
Can any one suggest any further steps to resolve this?
Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), 3.33GHz 6-Core Xeon, 32GB RAM
Open the merged library with iPhoto and in the First Aid window run Option #1, Repair Library Permissions and Option #4, Rebuild Database.
Launch Photos with the Option key held down and try to open the rebuild, merged library.
I have done this with the same result. Photos opens 10-15 seconds later it closes with no warning or crash info.
- Opened iPhoto library in Aperture
- Imported Aperture library
- Opened combined library in Photos
Have you tried to rebuild the combined library in Aperture, before migrating it? All first aid options - repair per missions, repair database, rebuild library?
Where is the combined library stored? In your Pictures folder or on an external drive?
If external drive - how is it connected and what is the file system?
Don't rebuild without a current backup.
I rebuilt it in iPhoto before migrating using the directions OT described above.
The combined library is stored in /home/Pictures and is an iPhoto library. Is internal, and made up of an iPhoto and Aperture libraries combined in Aperture.
I did not try rebuilding in Aperture, but rather iPhoto. Is there really a difference? I have a backup (uncombined) of each of the original libraries.
This does not look like an issue with either Aperture or iPhoto, as either of them are able to open the library. This looks like a Photos issue.

I have exactly the same problem. I can open the library in iPhoto but it will not open in photos. Funnily, my husband who is the other user on the iMac can open his library in photos with no trouble. I think it is a photos problem

I just upgraded to iOs 10.0.1 the iPhoto cannot be open. Please help!!!
iOS has nothing to do with iPhoto. If your iPhoto app won't launch or open your iPhoto Library it's not because of your upgrading your mobile device to iOS 10.01.
It's best you start your own topic and give us detailed information on the version of iPhoto you're using, the system version. and details of what happens when you try to open iPhoto.
You Have OS X 10.10.3 - about * updates behind - step one to solving this it to get up to date with El Captain OS X 10.11.6 and Photos 1.5 which has a ton of new features adn bug fixes and it very likely to resolve this - if it continues after you get up to date post back wht the then current derails

I just created a new discussion.
When I upgraded to iOs 10.0.1 this morning and I cannot open iPhoto or even Photo when I plug my iphone into my Mac Book Air. It said "The Library Could Not be Open" and I tried to select "Photos Library (system default)" and it didn't work.
I even tried to turn on iCloud Photo Library by going to Settings-->Photos&Camera-->turn on iCloud Photo Library, I left Photo Stream off, iCloud Photo Sharing off. So how come when I plug into my Mac Book Air the iPhoto Library and Photos cannot be open?
Please help!!!
