I had the same problem when I updated to the latest version of OS X Yosemite 10.10.3  However, my iPhotos icon is greyed out and when I click on it, it says that I need to update to the latest version of iPhotos and when I click the link provided, it says it can't find it.  Is there any way I can get iPhotos back because I can't import my photos from my iPhone to the new Photos app on my Mac.  **I've posted a question for that and I haven't gotten any response**

If you have ever purchased iPhoto from the App Store (even for $0), you should be able to download a copy of the final version (9.6.1)  from the "Purchases" tab of the App Store application. You may have to move the greyed-out version of iPhotos to the trash before you will be offered the option to download the newest version. (You don't have to empty the trash immediately, just move the old version there; you can empty it later if you prefer.)

iPhoto will continue to work fine, but Apple will no longer be updating it.

That's not strictly true.  If you launch iPhoto with the Command+Option key held down and run the following First Aid routines on the library you will be able to use it normally:

    1 - Option #1 - Repair Permissions

    2 - Option #4 - Rebuild Database

and only if you have problems with thumbnails

    3 - Option #2 - Rebuild Thumbnails.

That will get the library back to a normal iPhoto library.
