I am experiencing very high CPU usage when running the file bbb_sunflower_2160p_60fps_normal.mp4.
Here are the screenshots of the Activity Monitor when running the same file on VLC and Quick Time. Is this normal?

VLC might not be optimized correctly to be used in OS X 10.10.x. I would suggest to contact with app developers for more info: http://www.videolan.org/support/

I agree with iWOO, this sounds like something for the guys at the VLC labs to fix 🙂
Yes I agree. I don't expect apple to fix it. I just want to know if there is someone else experiencing the same issue. I personally don't know any other .mkv player as versatile as VLC is. So if you have any other player suggestion please tell me🙂
I haven't experienced what you are with playback, but I have noticed that in general VLC consumes more CPU than QuickTime/iTunes.
VLC is the best, I think there's nothing else out there that comes close to what VLC can play!
