mac store crashes upon opening
I am running 10.6.8. I paid to update to Mavericks but Mac App Store crashes immediately upon opening and I cannot update.

I've done that before but I tried it again and it still did not help. When I try to download the new OS (Lion, not Mavericks), it crashes.
Mavericks was a free update from the Mac App Store, who and why did you pay for it? It in no longer available, Yosemite was released in November 2014 and has replaced Mavericks. If you are having difficulty accessing the Mac App Store restart in Safe Mode and try from there.
What model Mini?
The two 2006 Minis can only go to Snow Leopard when the 2007 can only go to Lion. The later ones can go to Yosemite.
No, I'm trying to download Lion, not Mavericks. I cannot upgrade to Yosemite without first downloading Lion.

That is 100% incorrect, if you are running 10.6.6 or above you can upgrade directly to Yosemite!
When I tried to download Yosemite, I was directed to purchase Lion and install that first. Regardless, even if I try to download Yosemite, any time I do anything in the app store, it crashes. Application not responding. For hours. Is there a way to bypass the app store and directly download and install Yosemite or Lion?
Can you provide a screenshot of the message that says you have to go to Lion first?

I do not need instructions on how to upgrade. Can we please forget about Lion and address the problem that the app store crashes? I can click on Yosemite on the opening page and click 'get'. Then it crashes with the wheel of neverending spinning. I can click on purchases and attempt to download Lion and it says waiting. It doesn't matter which I try to update to, as the app store crashes. Can you help me with the actual problem with the app store or tell me where or how I can download it independently? I'm comfortable working in terminal, is there a way to do it that way instead?
