Q: Yesterday I updated to OS x 10.10.3 which included Photos. I use ThunderBird for mail and can no longer send pictures with email

Photos does not allow me to email pictures. ThunderBird is my mail client.

Also after the update of OS X 10.10.3 I have many new .jpeg files (looks like all my photo files) in All My Files list along with Photo Library, Photo Library copymigratedphotolibrary, and Photos Library copy.photoslibrary in my Pictures list. When using the new Photos app, which of these can I delete?

Apple should have sent more information to help users with this new Photos app.

Please help/

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Select a photo in Photos. Click on the Share gadget in the toolbar on the right and select Mail. Apple does not support Thunderbird, I'm afraid, so you need to take this up with their tech support people.

I would not delete the old iPhoto Library. See Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support.

The problem is that when I click on the Share gadget I can not select Mail because it is greyed out. I saw others had a similar problem except they were using outlook. Thanks for trying.

If you use Mail as your default email application, as most of us do, the selection won't be greyed out.

And, have you tried looking in Extensions, in your System Preferences, to see if Thunderbird is listed under the Share Menu:

I also use Thunderbird. What I ended up doing was: select photos --> File --> Export photos. You can also select the photos and press Command-Shift-E on the keyboard. I dumped the pics on the desktop, and attached them to my email from there. An extra, really unnecessary step, but it works ...

Mail will not stay connected to the internet, so I was forced to go to Thunderbird.  The simple solution is to open mail and change your default mail app to mail.  this will activate the share option in photos.  Do your mailing of photos then switch your default back to Thunderbird.  What a way to wreck a railroad.

I was tearing my hair out with this one. I finally decided to set up a new free email address (I used gmail) and to attach ONLY that address to Mail. It took five minutes at most. I use Mail, and that email address, exclusively for emailing photos. Not exactly elegant, but simple, effective and never have to think about it again.
