Import Error (-9912)

I am trying to import video off my GOPRO and get the error "import error (-9912)". I have tried using image capture, 'photos' and the official GOPRO importer. I am almost certain this is an OSX 10.10.3 problem, not the go pro.

I have tried to repair permissions on the Macbooks drive with no success (just in case something strange had happened with the latest OSX update that change something)

I tried all the import software i have

I formatted the memory card in both the GOPRO and the Macbook, rerecording video, then importing.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

So I contacted GoPro Support about the situation with importing footage with iMac's and this is what they said.

Hi John,

Thanks for reaching out to us today! I know it's frustrating having to use the workaround to transfer your files but I appreciate your honest feedback and I'll keep you posted as soon as I hear more about new firmware being released! Feel free to reply back if you encounter any other questions or concerns in the mean time.

Stay well!

Looks like I jumped the gun with my 10.10.5 comment. In reality, it looks like the error may be tied to certain Mac hardware coupled with 10.10.3, 10.10.4 or the first beta of 10.10.5. On my old Macbook Pro, I have no issues using Image Capture to pull in large GoPro files with 10.10.4 or 10.10.5. However, with my newer Retina Macbook Pro, I get the 9912 failure every time with Image Capture.

  • Backup computer (no issues with 10.10.4 or 10.10.5 public beta): Model A1278 (13 inch Macbook Pro, late 2011)
  • Main computer (failing with -9912 on 10.10.4 and 10.10.5 public beta): Model A1398 (15 inch Retina Macbook Pro, Mid 2014)

I've been having daily e-mail correspondence with a member of GoPro customer support and submitted bug reports to Apple, but nothing of any consequence has come of it so far.

So far I'm still seeing the same error on the 2nd public beta of El Capitan (10.11). I keep opening feedback tickets with apple for each build I've seen this in (10.10.5 public beta 1 and 10.11 public beta 2) as well as feeding back to GoPro support. Not feeling optimistic that either company is taking this too seriously as this bug has been around for months at this point. 😠

I can't comment if issues with an iPhone will clear up in El Capitan, but I finally saw Image Capture and Go Pro Studio flawlessly import multiple 4GB movie files tonight without a single error on public beta 3 of El Capitan. I tried multiple iterations with both programs on files that had failed previously in Yosemite and the earlier Public Beta of El Cap with the -9912 error and didn't hit it a single time. Fingers crossed it is fixed for good in the official release! 🙂
