Apple tv and apple keyboard not pairing

For some reason my apple tv cannot pair with my apple keyboard. I try to insert the code it shows on screen for the pair to occur and nothing happens on screen. I can pair my keyboard to my macbook pro easily and use it with ease but that's not the case for my apple tv. Any suggestions on how i can maybe reset my keyboard or do something in the apple tv settings?
