Q: Looking for the best solution for new home network.
In the process of constructing living space as an addition to my daughter's house. I discussed Ethernet and Coaxial drops with the electrician so that I could connect either via WiFi or Ethernet in five different locations. However, only three computers will be connected at any one time. More than likely, my wife will connect wirelessly and, for gaming purposes, I will connect via Ethernet. In any case, all dual drops (Ethernet and Coaxial) are home runs to the closet on the first floor. There are two additional leads ( one Ethernet and one coaxial ) that extend from the closet through the basement and terminate outside of the house. First, I suspect that it is purposeless for the Ethernet lead to extend out of the house.
First, if I am correct the signal comes into the house on one coaxial line. That line will be split. One side of the split will be dedicated to coaxial terminals while the opposite side of the split will be dedicated for data (Ethernet and WiFi). So, the primary lead from the split attached to the Arris Gateway which has four identical Ethernet connections - - - > Time Capsule - - ->Switch?----->Connect all Ethernet drops---->wall plates equipped with Coaxial and Ethernet.
I suspect (not certain) that I connect any of the Arris Ethernet ports to the Time Capsule WAN. Is that correct?
Second, run an Ethernet cable from a Time Capsule LAN to the Ethernet Switch? If this is correct, can any suggest a reliable switch? Next, is there a specific port used for a connection from the Time Capsule?
Next, the switch ports are connected to Ethernet drops, correct?
Finally, the individual drops are connected to the wall plates . . . I am CERTAIN of this.
Suggestions? Comments?
I would like to do this once and once only, please?
