Why doesn't my apple ID password work when it's correct?

I've been trying to set up my macbook for the past 2hrs and it requests my apple ID password when I want to indicate i'm online on Jabber? But everytime I put in my password, it doesn't accept it. I even changed my apple ID password and it still doesn't work. I don't understand what kind of problem I'm currently facing 😟
