Hi, I think I have a solution. I scrapped the old iTunes, emptied the trash, and re-started my computer with a SAFE START. Then I downloaded iTunes again, installed, and re-started the ordinary way. It seems to work now.
I tried to delete iTunes to reinstall, but was unable to;
"“iTunes.app” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by OS X."
How were you able to delete it?
I have the same problem.
when i click the iTunes, nothing happened.
i use os 10.10.3, iMac, after i downloaded the latest iTunes, iTunes will not open anymore.
Hope Anyone got any ideas?
Hi, I may not have totally deleted it. In finder>applications I moved iTunes to the trash and emptied the trash. I did not get a warning message.
Then I did a safe start and re-installed iTunes. It now seems to work. If you are getting a warning message, I think the problem needs escalating, as so many people seem to have it, there must be an incompatible bit of code in the new iTunes.
Hello Mark, I did not delete it as an app but from the applications folder, so I probably left some extensions behind.
Work around.
I had the same problem and was able to solve it by deleting iTunes and reinstalling.
The Finder tries quite hard to stop you from deleting iTunes; instead you can open Terminal.app and 'sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app'. You can download the replacement copy of iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Thanks a lot Andrew Collier!
it works for me.
I ended up contacting Apple Support before seeing Andrew Collier's post, and they lead me through the process that is the same as what he described; just running the installer over the existing iTunes didn't fix it…we had to delete iTunes first.
but is there more permanent solution to this problem? Because its need to be done every time to open the iTunes
You rock! I have been trying to figure this out for months!! Thank you for your post. 🙂 My heart is happy again.
