Q: Remote Desktop to my mac at home

Hi I want to be able to access my home Mac Mini from anywhere using my Macbook. I was thinking about trying Remote Desktop but I saw on the website it says "instant, at-a-glance view of the remote computers in your network". So does this mean that it only works on the computers on the same LAN?

Can I use Remote Desktop to access my Mac Mini from afar?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Yes, it works over the internet.
Can apple remote desktop work over the internet?

Thank you, but after seeing Back to My Mac I'm gonna use that. It looks awesome and its free.
