I am having a problem with my sound on my MacBook Pro. I use a website called Duolingo to learn a language but as of today my sound is not allowing any playback of any sort. can you help?

The sound on my MacBook Pro is not working. I have been using a website called Duolingo for over a year with no sound problem. But today I am unable to use the speakers or mic. I thought it might have something to do with Flash, but Duolingo is allowed in its list. I also have Flash Extension installed on my computer but Duolingo is also allowed on that app. Does anyone have any idea as to what happened to my sound and how I can fix it?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), processor 2.53 GHz

Some websites have an internal mute or volume setting. If that's not the issue, see below.

From the Safari menu bar, select

Safari Preferences...Privacy Remove All Website Data...

and confirm. Close the window. Then select

 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player Advanced Delete All...

In the sheet that opens, check the box marked

Delete All Site Data and Settings

then click Delete Data. Close the preference pane.

Thank you for your help. I appreciate the step by step instructions. I followed them and removed and cleared all the info, but I still do not have sound. I also notice that I do not have any user interface sounds in my mail app either. My computer is strangely quiet. I noticed that I had an automatic update to iTunes on 10 April. After that is when I started having problems. Could the update have anything to do with the lack of sound?

how recent is your flash player and did you download it from Adobe's site?

It should never be DL'ed from a pop up or some other location.

sites audio is working for me, I'm learning French as long as I use the Chrome browser.

le singe est sur la table avec le pamplemousse jeter au pompier.

Once I switch to Safari and go to the site I get this error:

To be clear I am not using any blockers, I'm thinking the problem is Safari

if uninstalling and reinstalling Click to Flash solved it I'd start with that.

The last update was 4.5.15 it's possible you had an out of date version but Safari is a very finicky browser IMHO and I and most of my mac co-workers avoid it. It may be great for home use but we've run into some show stopping features in business world that Firefox and Chrome don't need any tweaking to work out.

the forms on one site mentioned there are two pieces of software with this name which are unrelated except for what they are supposed to do.

Also if your DL any plug-ins from Softpedia, Cnet, etc. expect some bundled nonsense with them.
