Trouble downloading Yosemite Recovery Update 1.0

Hi folks!

So, like many of you, judging from other postings here, I had great difficulty downloading and installing the 10.10.3 update via the App Store. It would just hang and hang and hang. However, downloading the Combo Updater directly from the Apple Support site took minutes.

Unfortunately, I have encountered the exact same problem with the Recovery Update. I have followed all the troubleshooting steps I could find (clearing the App Store cache and temporary items, repairing permissions, etc.). It still is taking hours and hours to download, and has just given up more than a few times. Indeed, it is listed numerous times in the "recently installed" section, and yet, it does not appear to have ever successfully installed.

To make it all a little more interesting, I tried downloading a game through the App Store, and it worked perfectly. So, this problem seems to be specific to Mac OS updates. Thus, I am starting to think that the App Store, in itself, is not the problem.

Furthermore, although perhaps unrelated, it took hours and hours to update my iPad and my iPhone to the latest iOS yesterday. Are there servers just overloaded? Is that possibly still a factor at this point today?

I cannot seem to find a direct download at the Apple site for the Recovery Update, nor can I figure out how to check if perhaps it DID install. It's clearly not as simple as checking the OS version, or the version of this or that application.

Has anyone else managed to get around this somehow?

at 500+ MB, it should be available for download from the Support site, like the Combo updater. With 4 macs to update… even if the App Store process was working flawlessly, (which it is not), redundant downloads is hardly helpful.

I hear you, Andrew. I wish it were available there/here too. Something clearly needs to be overhauled in the App Store (which I generally try to support as much as possible, as long as the price is not too off) when it works with third-party applications but not Apple's own OS updates.

Update: Still not working. I tried contacting Apple Support, but no response, presumably because AppleCare has expired, even though this does not appear to be a hardware issue, but rather one with their update service. I am not sure how, when, or if this will ever be resolved.

I am having the same issue. it acts like it is starting to download and then just quits. Nothing.

Over and over and over. no luck on downloading the update

I am very sorry to hear that. Perhaps you won't want to read this, then, but I think it finally installed correctly. I tried yet again shortly after my last post and left it to do something else. Now, it has been listed as "installed" perhaps a dozen times, but as you know, it would just time out or give up or whatever, and the "Update" option would still be there. This time, that option is gone, and there is no longer a notification number indicating an update is available. With great trepidation, I reloaded the page, but still no change. So I think it has finally installed legitimately.

This does not mean, however, that the problem (which remains unidentified) has been solved. All it means is I am stubborn. Why it took several days to download and install a little 500 MB update is beyond me.

Does this mean there's hope, James? 😁 Mine shows 'installed,' then it reverts to the #1 in the update window, indicating the update is still needed. And the 'install' button appears once again. So we need yet another update for the update 😟

That is exactly what was happening for me. I wish I had more specific advice to offer. As I said, I was just stubborn and kept trying, just as you have been. Whatever the actual problem is remains a mystery. Perhaps someone still under AppleCare will receive an actual response from Apple Support.

But no one has successfully solved the problem. Have now tried 10 different times since April 11th and no luck.

Dear oh dear. Any luck since then? I still don't know what, if anything, I did to get it to work. There have been a couple more updates since then, which went smoothly. I just don't know what to suggest!

Just wanted to let everyone know that a RAW Compatibility update appeared today alongside the very stubborn Yosemite Recovery 1.0 Update that has refused to install since April 11th. I chose "update all," assuming that the camera update would succeed and the Recovery update would continue to fail (as it has done with the recent iMovie and iTunes updates), but guess what?

THE RECOVERY UPDATE FINALLY INSTALLED.

This was my 25th attempt.

I suppose the lesson is never give up?

Just wanted to follow up on this post, Sanity. i, too, thought it was resolved when I downloaded the RAW update but, lo and behold, it reappeared that night. The much-hated little #1 embedded in the update circle. And, of course, it won't DL and disappear properly. When you can't beat 'em....

Oh no, it still has not downloaded properly for you two? What a nightmare. Silly question, but are you still under AppleCare, by any chance, either of you? I was/am not. It expired at the end of March (of course).

I am not under Apple Care. Would just like to throw out there, however, that I decided to reformat my computer and reinstall OS X and so far, no Recovery Update has appeared yet, and so I am currently computing red-bubble free (although who knows for how long!).
