Q: Batch change in Photos?

Seems like Apple has gotten rid of the "batch change" feature from iPhoto when moving to Photos. I liked using the "batch change" feature to change the "description" for several photos at once. Does anyone know how this can be accomplished in the new Photos app (which doesn't include pasting a sentence 200 times)...

Thanks for your response!

Apple doesn't necessarily read all posts here; this is a user-to-user forum. However, you could send feedback to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/.

    I still get an Error.

I tried the Service workflow on another computer and it worked.

I'm at a loss as to why I get this Error, of course on the computer I needed it to work on.

If it works on another computer, it may be a corruption in your Photos library, that is causing this. You may want to create a new, small test library on the machine, where the workflow is crashing and test with this library.

    It worked on New Library.

    Thank you

Then try to repair your current library - but not without making a backup of the current library, before you try that.

    • To repair hold down the  alt/option and the command key simultaneously while double clicking the "Photos Library to launch the iPhotos Library First aid tools. Hold down both keys firmly and long enough, until the First Aid panel will appear.
    • The select "Repair".

Thank you for your help. I did try the repair and same problem exists. Worked with small test library but not large library.

I am wondering if there is a problem working with a small library versus a library of 33k+ photos and videos.

I have not seen anything to make me think there is a problem with the large library but I am no expert.

Any further thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Instead of adding the text to the title, how do you create a script to get the info from the metadata to set the title to either the camera photo title or the date & time. Actually i'm more interested in creating one to set the title to date & time.

I added a script  to set the title to the capture date at the end of the comments to this User Tip:

    Leonie,

I loved your script to change the titles to the filename and am curious if it's possible to change both the title and the filename?  For example if my current filename is "IMG_1234" is it possible to modify one of your AppleScripts so that both the filename and a new title is added which is "UserFillDescription-CurrentFile4DigitNumber" so in this example it would be "042915-Trip-to-Colorado-1234.jpg"

    Thanks.

It would be possible, but take some programming, if you want the filename parsed and part of the filename dropped.

I'll have think about a more general title changer with more parameters.

Thanks for your reply.  For now I'm just going to use your Title changer and delete all of my albums.  When I used Aperture I had photos organized by event/project/album but that's a bit cumbersome in the new Photos when viewing on the iPhone.  Plus having things already organized by year and event/moment is pretty much what I was trying to accomplish.  I just want to try to easily group photos though according to event so I think using the Title field as the common denominator may fit the bill.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Thanks so much for the posted info!

When I am in Automator, I can get the "Ask for Text" and "Run Apple Script" as you have shown.  I can't seem to get the section that says "Service Receives..." that should be above "Ask for Text".  Do you have any advice for me to get this to show up?

    Thanks!

When you start Automator, Jenny, go to the "File" menu and select "New",

From the panel select "Service". Then you should be able to set the "Sevice receives" options.

I really miss the Batch Change option too, especially for setting the Title of a selection of photos to the Date/Time each photo was taken. Does anyone know how to do this using AppleScript?

I posted a simple script to batch change the title to the date and time in the User Tip section, see this link:

The User Tips are well hidden; if you want to look at the other scripts, see: User Tips (6)
