where can i download iphoto 9.6.1?

The Fotos.app needs iPhoto 9.6.1. This version is not available in the AppStore. Where can I get it?

After trying Photos, I found too many missing features, so tried to go back to iPhoto, only to discover I couldn't!

I've also searched for the Photo 9.6.1 update, but it seems to have been removed from the App Store. I've made an appointment to talk with Apple tomorrow to ask them what's going on.

I found you can still run iPhoto by opening the package contents with Control-click on the App, then click on Show Package Contents, Contents, MacOS, iPhoto. But I don't know how stable this is. It seems to run just fine. But I'd like the 9.6.1 update just to be sure it's not going to trash my photos.

This did not work for me - have never purchased iPhoto it has always been part of whatever system kit I got...so not in PURCHASED for me. Installed version is 9.4.3.

Any other options - I stupidly went to Yosemite before considering my photos. I have one huge iPhoto library on my home server not on the cloud. When I launch the import function in Photos.app it gets to 1-8% and sticks even when running for hours.

It appears I need a working version to pull this off.

1. Where can I download iPhoto 9.6.1?

2. Strategy-wise is it better plan to save all as smaller chunks (maybe by year) and manage the multiple libraries? Was thinking I could keep current year in iCloud if smaller.

3. Better tool to import existing 9.4.3 library to Photos.app?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if anyone else discovered this but I'm posting it in case it can help someone. I upgraded my mother old MacBook Pro (circa 2010) to Yosemite from 10.6.8 yesterday. And iPhoto stopped working, needing an update and I cannot find an update anywhere. I tried the suggestion of going to "purchases" and it showed that my mom has not purchased anything. No surprise because I don't think she did. I then went on my iMac (also on Yosemite) and in my AppStore view, it does show that I have purchased iPhoto. Light bulb moment... I go to my mom's laptop and log in to my account on AppStore and I am now downloading iPhoto on her computer.

Now I'm totally not understanding whether you actually have to buy iPhoto to get updates. Eons ago, I did buy iLife and I'm sure it is tied to my Apple ID. So, maybe for old iPhoto to be upgradeable, you have to have purchased iPhoto at some point? So, find someone who has purchased it and use their id to get upgrade. I would have had my mom purchase iPhoto if that were an option. How the heck do you buy it if it doesn't show up in App Store??

Photos. Shockingly awful. How could anybody who has touched iPhoto or Aperture ever consider it? Waste of an afternoon converting.

Hurray for this conversation.

I don't think there's any other way of getting iPhoto anymore....

None of the suggestions worked for me.

I fortunately had iPhoto 9.6.1 on another mac and was able to copy and can get my wife back on iPhoto.

Sheesh.

Hi,

I have discovered another thread which gave a solution for downloading iPhoto 9.5.1 that worked.

Basically you create another User account with full admin privileges, restart the computer, log in to the App Store, go to Purchases and click the iPhoto button which now says "Install" and not "Upload".

Hope this helps.

@Dah•veed, I saw your post and it's not a pirated copy of iPhoto. It was taken off my iMac so I could keep using iPhoto on my MacBook Pro (I'm not a fan of Photos yet) after upgrading to Yosemite and noticed that my previous copy of iPhoto, v 9.6 didn't work. I upgraded it to v9.6.1 and I'm good to go. I'm just trying to help but understand that It's against form rules to post links to copyrighted software. If you removed my post, I completely understand the reason why.

When you offer a copy of Mac App Store software licensed to you, that has your Apple ID encoded in it, it is pirated software the moment anyone else installs it on their Mac. The license does not allow you to share it with others.

The Apple Support Communities Hosts removed your post. They also removed the post from the other guy encouraging folks to get a copy from friends.

This is BS! Shame on Apple! My iPhoto isn't working after upgrade to 10.10.4. You would think Apple would've had a pre-OS upgrade compatibility check to let you know that the most important freaking application on your Mac wouldn't work on the release to which you were upgrading! If i have to go talk to a "genius" at the Apple store to get this fixed, then I'm extracting all my pics from iPhoto and going back to a PC...complete crap!

iphoto 9.6.1 is compatible with 10.10.4 so if yours isn't working then either you did not upgrade to 9.6.1 before performing the upgrade -which is what this entire discussion is about- or something is wrong with your system. If you have not performed the upgrade, then, after reading this discussion, why are you complaining? Do the update. If you have, then run disk utility and repair permissions, and run a check on the hardrive as something else could be wrong. In which case a 3rd party app like Diskwarrior could be needed.

As for going back to windows over this, well, that's your own lookout as windows is a nightmare from OS to app.
