Q: Bad call quality after ios 8.3 upgrade

After the new IOS 8.3 update my Call quality has worsened by a lot.

 

The sound is crackeled and distorted as if the volume is too high.

Before the update the sound quality was perfect.

 

I have tested this in areas with perfect a reception/signal.

iPhone 6, iOS 8.3, null

    I now have this problem after updating to 8.4 callers sound as if they are talking through their hands cupped over their mouths. Apple are you listening or can't you hear me?

    iOS 8.4.1 does not solve the problem.

    HI, I have exactly the same problem in my Iphone 6S Plus with IOS 9.1. The sound quality from the earspeaker is horrible when making phone calls. I have now already 4th Iphone 6S Plus and they all have had exactly the same issue. First one was tried to be fixed at Apple service. They even changed the earspeaker but no change in the sound quality. I have changed a new SIM card from the same operator, no change. I have tried a SIM card from other operator, no change. It seems to be the problem is not in the earspeaker itself as the voice recorder plays flawless sound via earspeaker. The problem has to be somewhere in the phone functionality - either software or hardware. Both Iphone 5S and 5C do not have any problem with the same SIM card and they have a perfect sound quality.

     

    When I have called Apple support they said  they have not heard earlier anything about this problem. It sounds really strange as the sound quality in all of these 4 phones have been identical and below any standard. Many people have been complaining about this since IOS 8.3 in Iphone 6 and the problem still exists in IOS 9.1 with Iphone 6S and 6S Plus. APPLE PLEASE DO SOMETHING!

    UPD:

    Сегодня выявил одну закономерность:

    Оператор Мегафон (к слову)

    При выключении LTE в настройках аппарата, треск проявляется в большем объеме, чем с включенным LTE...

    Это наводит на мысль, что настройки сотовой сети (на стороне оператора) могут как то влиять на данный дефект.

    Чуть позже на форуме в теме про данный дефект Re: Bad call quality after ios 8.3 upgrade вычитал, что один из пользователей предположил, что этот дефект связан с режимом работы LTE у сотового оператора и внедрением каких то новых принципах LTE в айфонах начиная с прошивки 8.3...

    В любом случае, ранее на 8.2 этого бага не наблюдали, а следовательно, его могут устранить и на будущих прошивках....

    Well, I just got the Iphone 6s Plus, IOS 9.3.1... Same problem... Same in earpiece and in headphones. If I go to Accessibility -> Hearing Aids and activate it, I can't feel the buzzing anymore, but the sound quality isn't that good. It's May 2016 and still no solving for the problem....

    Yes i can confirm same problem with brand new iPhone 6 128 GB. Really bad ear-speaker quality.

     

    • They attempted "to repair" it, still same issue.
    • They they replaced it, still same issue.
    • The next time i took my phone for repair they said: "there is no issue and phone works perfect". No refund or replace.

    But they replaced it before with same problem and now it is working perfect according to them?

     

    Good bye Apple, my first and last purchase from you. I am going to sell this piece of s*** and buy other manufacturer phone. Heck, even my old phone from china for 100$ does not have any issues.

    Hello, thak you for reply! I can assure you one thing! It's a software problem. I went and exchanged it 3 times...They gave me new phones. I had the problem on every Iphone. I am ok using the Hearing Aid.... I understand you want to say good bye to Apple, but I would advice you one thing: do not buy Samsung... I had 3 S7 Edge and with all 3 I had really big problems (first one had a Camera Issue, second had problems with touch screen and third had a big hardware problem). That's why I got the Iphone... Have a nice day!

    Is it that problem during calls when people start talking louder or on some low voices earpiece starts to vibrate/crackle?  I'm having this problem from the beginning i have this new iphone6 with latest ios.
