My MBP keeps hanging after installing the 10.10.3 Yosemite update.

My mac keeps hanging after installing the 10.10.3 Yosemite update.

Random Hangs, I can't point a cause, and it does not seem to be connected to any program in specific... it usually happens when doing a new action, like opening or changing a tab on Safari, starting a program, clicking on something, opening a file or editing, etc.

The hangs usually last for about 10 seconds.

Is anyone having the same experience?

I have a mid-2012 MBP, 16 GB RAM, 500GB disk, i5 2,5 processor.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Start up in Safe Mode. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18760

Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

Choose the method for:

"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

Repair Disk

Steps 1 through 7

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5836

If this doesn't help:

Can you run EtreCheck and post the report here please?

Hello Dominic, thank you for the try.

I completed the steps you mentioned. Sarted in Safe Mode, then reseted the SMC, then ran the Repair Disk utility (the disk is ok and didn't need repair).

However, the situation is much worse now after these steps. The computer hangs much more often and for much longer. It is not possible to work like this.

Here is the EtreCheck report, hope it sheds some light on the situation.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.

Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.

Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Hello Linc Davis, hangs can last between 1 or 2 minutes at times.

Here's what I found on the console, while 2 hangs took place.

The startup drive is failing, or there is some other internal hardware fault.

Back up all data on the drive immediately if you don't already have a current backup. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair

Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.

*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

Apr 13, 2015 2:57 PM in response to Aprilmorning

I had the very same issue.

I found that it was either 1 of 2 things.

1. My 3rd party mouse. i removed it and had no issues. re installed drivers for it. now its fine.

2.It was very very hot. turned it off and unplugged for 12 hours and now is fine even when hot.

re-setting the VRAM and doing the SMC may have helped also in combination with one of the others.

I did HDD checks and everything. even booted from an external clone and same issue occurred. the only common factors where heat and mouse.

if thats any help to you?

I know that a few others have had issues with 3rd party keyboards causing issues with this update. I would imagine its something to do with the the EMOJIS (of doom) they added.

My MBP keeps hanging after installing the 10.10.3 Yosemite update.
