iCloud photos preferences.

Under preferences in the photos app, the icloud photos library selection continualy becomes unchecked therefore uploading stops. Anyone else having this problem?

Not doing anything. My computer is left alone allowing the upload but when I return and check the progress the iCloud Photo Library check mark in preferences is unchecked. It will upload for a period of time (hours maybe) but at some point it becomes unchecked. Very annoying as I want this upload to complete. It's taking a very long time.

would two different users on the same computer having iCloud library turned on cause a conflict due to the 'system library'?

I have never tried tis from two different user accounts. But switching between two different applications - for example Aperture and Photos and enabling My Photo Stream for them may disable iCloud for your Photos Library.

i understand that.

different approach here. does iCloud photo library sync albums made on photos? (not photo sharing) as for ***** and giggles i opened and new library set it as system and started downloading and some of her albums appeared, i don't know if its all of them i have to write a list and compare and also see how many photos are in each album.

but should it sync albums you make on your iMac too?

not ideal as i still want the original photos stored on my mac to be my copies not some iCloud optimised version but its another way of doing it if possible?

still any ideas on why iCloud photo library turns itself off? this really has me stuck! and it seems like quite a few other people have the same problem but no answer is out there floating around.

the product support specialist said permissions have almost nothing to do with the way iCloud works so repairing them would do nothing if not more damage to system

If you do not enable "Optimize Mac Storage" your originals will be kept locally on your Mac as well and you can edit your photos if you do not have an internet connection.

I you are using iCloud Photo Library on two macs with the same AppleID all standard albums and smart albums will sync between your two macs, also the edits, titles, captions, places, keywords. Only the faces thumbnails and the projects will not sync to the other mac.

See: Use Photos and iCloud Photo Library on multiple Mac computers - Apple Support

On the iCloud Webpage and on your mobile devices you will not see the smart albums, however, only the standard albums.

hi leonie,

thanks for your reply.

yes but is the copy on icloud actually an original full resolution picture that i can trust just as much as one i imported from my phone?

this offers a part way solution around it as i have opened a new library and am syncing her photos as apple has told me all 18000 photos are in the cloud already

any way to get projects over to new library? that would be my only issue she has a few projects i can see all the albums have synced over and if apple can't fit this uploading issue then i guess there isn't much choice i just need her projects somehow
