Q: Macbook Pro was stolen, I have found what I think is my Macbook on craigslist but I do not have my serial number, is there anyway to prove its mine?

My Macbook was stolen a few days ago from my car. I do not have my serial number because I did not buy it from an apple store and for some reason the place I bought it from doesn't have a serial number with the purchase( Which I thought was odd). I also didnt register it. I have found what I believe to be my Macbook on craigs list(My model and year, no pictures or specs, low price, within a few mins drive from my house and posted within a few hours of the time it was stolen). If it has been wiped is there any way to prove it is mine? ex if i got the serial number off of the Macbook could i use it somehow?

A dated receipt with the serial number on it. The original box with the serial number on it. A registration of the serial number with your insurance company.

If you registered the device to your account on the Support Profile page, you can get your serial number from there. Just type in your Apple ID and it should pull up a list of products you have registered. Just search apple support profile and you should get one to apple's website. If it doesn't look like the apple website, I wouldn't trust it. Good Luck!

Hello,
If you have setup an iCloud account properly on your mac you can get it's serial number by logging in the iCloud website you can even track it's position and lock it
If it's still have his last owners iCloud account logged-in in it , contact him
