How do I convert gallons and litres to each other?

I am using a numbers spreadsheet to supervise the amount of fluid going into multiple tanks at my job.

Depending on the supplier we either order in USgallons or liters, and I need to make sure that the mass flow (in kg/lbs) is accurate.

The problem is that we need to fill tanks with metric gauges with USGallons.

What I want to do in Numbers is this:

USGLitersKGSpec. Mass
10=10x 3.785

= 0.8x37.85

0.8
=80/3.87580=0.8x800.8

The RED cells are the ones I can fill in.

My Plan was to take my Macbook, walk to a tank, put in whatever the gauges give me (liters or USG) and calculates the mass and the missing Volume Unit.

So the spreadsheet has to "recognize" which column I can fill and which is supposed to be calculated.

I can't use two separate tables because this has to be printed on a letter sized "summary sheet" and with all the other data it is filled to the top.

I previously did the same thing in excel using macros, but those don't work in numbers.

Hi Andy,

I added a column I called "Calculated Liters" to sort out the gal or liter thing.

If there is a value in the Liters column that is used directly otherwise the value in the USG column is multiplied by 3.785.

The formula in D2 =C2×E2.

If you want to get fancy and catch errors where there are entries in both the USG and Liters columns you could us a formula like this:

=IF(B3+A3=B3,B3,IF(A3+B3=A3,A3×3.785,"USG or Liters?"))

This will test that there is only an entry in USG or Liters otherwise ,"USG or Liters?"

Does that cover it for you?
