My cord doesn't have the green light to show it is getting power and recharging my computer. I tried another outlet, but still no power. Does the cord need to be replaced? It's about 3 years old.

Sounds like it needs to be replaced. You could make an appointment at the Genius Bar and let them check it out.
The charger needs to be replaced and/or the battery needs replacing or there's a problem on the logic board.
Or the DC in board. If you can try a known good charger. Carefully look at the MacSafe port and see if it's dirty.
