how do I reset my ID password? Why is it visible in the box when I type it?

i Had an email saying someone had used my ID on another device to purchase something. It is probably spam but I decided to reset my password ( not by following the email links.) In the box there was no ' starring' for security but I went ahead and typed it, and it says on the next page that an email has been sent. I haven't received an email so now I'm more worried by security. Can you explain what I'm doing wrong. I checked my Spam programme but it' not in there.

You seem to have done everything just right.The password field seems odd, but if everything else proceeded normally - until no confirmation email, that is - you will need to try this > Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security

Using iOS while entering the password, you will see the last letter typed and it remains visible until you enter the next letter, at which point the previous turns into *. Is that the behavior you were seeing? If so, that is how it was designed - I personally don't think it should, but that is the way it is.

Thanks for replying but it did not behave in that way. The whole password was visible and that worried me that it had been recorded for someone to access. I'm used to seeing the behaviour you describe so it was unexpected. Anyway I think I'll stay with the old password and hope for the best.

I've not seen that behavior; however, I don't believe that it would have been recorded for someone to access. But, since there hasn't been any other input, I'd suggest that you take it to your nearest Genius Bar and show them what is happening - they might be able to determine the cause.
