768 x 576 or 720 x 576 in FC Express ?

Hi,
I and some other in my shcool group work at present with an animation project where we are combining three software programs: Flash 8, After Effects and Final Cut Express HD (to put together the animated pices into a movie).

But, we have an issue about which format(size) we should be dealing with during the production. We are here talking about the PAL-format. On the first hand I have been told we should go for 768x576 (standard PAL-format). IS this right? Should Do I have to use this size in Flash and AE when it afterwards should be imported in Final Cut E? I am not quite sure, because isn't FCE using 720x576? This resolution size is also including DV and DVD, right?

When I am importing a exported flash movie into Final Cut (768x576), the clip gets black stripes by the all sides of the pictures. Strange. But, if I import 720x576 materials these stripes are gone and the picture fit the entire screen (this is on a computer screen, not television/monitors).

I hope someone can explain and get me to descide which PAL-size we should be using forwards. 768x576 or 720x576? That's the question. Thanking you in advance for your help.

720x576 is the correct size. The only size used by PAL digital video. The other number is used as a square pixel representation, but it's never used in video. If you can't set the correct pixel aspect ratio in your animation application then make it using square pixels 768x576. Take that into the QuickTime Pro player and export to the correct aspect for DV PAL to conform the pixel aspect ratio.
