Could you please give me your MacBook Air's model identifier? http://www.everymac.com/mac-identification/where-to-find-apple-model-identifiers -model-id-machine-model-for-identification.html
This should look something like "MacBookAir1,1" or "MacBookAir5,2"

Apr 15, 2015 9:07 PM in response to newtechsavvyby Latranner,The highest version of OS X your MacBook Air can run is OS X 10.7.5. At this point you have two options.
- Purchase OS X Snow Leopard. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard This is an install DVD and will require an external DVD drive.
- Purchase OS X Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion This is a digital download code and will allow you to download Lion from the Mac App Store. From here you can create a bootable OS X Lion install USB by following these directions. http://lifehacker.com/5823096/how-to-burn-your-own-lion-install-dvd-or-flash-dri ve
Since you don't have a CD drive currently, you will likely want to take the second option.
